Jemiah Clemons, a senior at NC, joined newspaper due to her love for writing. Life as a high school student causes plenty of stress, but newspaper gives her the break that she desires. Along with writing, Clemons enjoys watching movies, working out, and napping. When awake, you can catch her doing homework or watching RuPaul’s Drag Race. Clemons has a passion for sports and sports medicine and plans on going into this field for a career. 

As Jemiah approaches the end of her high school career, she begins to make plans for college. With the University of Miami being her top school, she continues to work toward the dream of attending. She plans to involve herself around campus and live college life to the fullest.

Approximately 1,360 school shootings have occurred in the U.S. since 1970. Since then, 637 students, teachers and staff have lost their lives in a shooting. Code red drills try to prepare students in the case of this tragic event. While the uselessness of code red drills serves as a separate issue, the government should fix access to firearms and gun control first.

The Warriors entered Friday night with a 6-1 record, while the Hawks arrived with a 1-6 record. The Warriors dominated the 3AAAAAAAA region a year prior and so far earned a 3-0 start to 2021 region play. However, several adoption agencies use a foundation of religion to discriminate against these couples. The dystopian genre lacks originality due to the repetitiveness of plots, character arcs and themes. Young adult dystopias contain a few tropes that become overdone, and in the process, lose their uniqueness. Most films share the same tropes and do not show diversity amid struggle. Everything in these films conveniently falls in place for the main character and this takes away from the realistic nature.

Following the advice of Governor Brian Kemp, Cobb County public schools will shut down. This will take effect March 16th and will continue indefinitely. NC plans to begin online classes for students to continue learning. All extracurricular activities and events have been canceled or postponed.

Counselors from all over Cobb County came together to help inform students, staff and parents about anxiety disorders that affect young people. Students hang up decorations to celebrate Veterans Day on Monday, November 11. The display will stand in the main building, across from the attendance office. The bulletin board will include American flags, pictures of veterans and quotes.

Students in Ms. Julie Hopp’s anatomy class dissected a sheep’s kidney. The students hope to find and learn about the different parts of the kidney as they study the urinary system. “We do everything on paper in this class and the students are always surprised by seeing an actual organ. It is important for the students to get the hands on experience,” Hopp said.

NC Lady Warriors faced off against the Hillgrove Hawks on their Senior Night Tuesday, October 1, 2019. Though the Warriors walked away with a loss, the defense filled the game with amazing plays, and they will walk into their next game with their heads held high. “Some of us have been playing together for five or more years and we created lifelong friendships and memories. Sometimes good things shouldn’t come to an end,” NC senior varsity softball player Kathryn Bywaters said.
