In a school rife with sports, it is hard to recognize that some of our sports teams often go unnoticed. As two girls who have been part of these “unnoticed teams”, we realized how many talented individuals are left without any praise or support from our school peers. In an attempt to resolve this issue, we have decided to highlight different players from all of our teams to provide them with recognition. Another implication of our column is that our recognition can assist players who are interested in pursuing their sport in college. We are extremely excited to watch this page grow as we introduce more players and we plan to update this column and feature players from every sport and grade level as frequently as we can.
My name is Sophia Lamb and I am the co-founder of “Meet the Team” and am so excited to feature the athletes here at NC. While certain sports like football and volleyball garner more attention, featuring the lesser-known sports like soccer and tennis is also extremely important to me. With this column I hope to give attention to all of the different sports and players of each team, encouraging others to join and try new things to build a sense of community. School spirit is important and by featuring these athletes I want to encourage others to find pride in their peers.
My name is Alyssa Mehta and I am also a co-founder of this new column! As a former soccer player for NC, I noticed the differences in appreciation and support for players on lesser-known teams and I want to change this lack of recognition. I believe that every athlete at NC is just as important as the next to our teams and deserves to be acknowledged for their hard work. If you are interested in getting featured in this column you can find us in The Chant room or dm me on Instagram: _alyssa_mehta_.
