NC principal Mathew Moody was officially appointed as the Assistant Superintendent to the Cobb County School District (CCSD) on Thursday, April 24, 2025. Moody began his journey at NC in 2018, following 15 previous years as a teacher at McEachern High School and teacher and assistant principal at Harrison High School. Now, Moody rises through administrative ranks — eager to serve the county as a whole.
Following the official appointment, Moody sent a message to the NC community at 8:50 PM via the Cobb Teaching and Learning System (CTLS), addressing his new position. Citing his seven years at NC, Moody reminisced about the achievements and challenges faced alongside educators, families and students alike, calling NC a home. The message closed with a promise to ensure a smooth transition between NC principals; his successor remained undecided at this time.
“Moody is very helpful in terms of keeping his social media active and attending all the extracurricular events and sports. His social media presence was really big, whether it was him keeping the students updated with schedule changes or upcoming events, or games. I feel like our generation retains more information by seeing something digitally online, like an Instagram post, because we like and see it on the daily. I hope the new principal is just as chill,” junior Taylor Giles said.
Moody’s new position as Assistant Superintendent begins July 1, 2025, preceding the 2025-26 school year. Through this position, Moody will oversee eight high schools and support their principals. Assistant Superintendents work to establish a connection spanning county administration and the district’s schools. His duties will include developing curriculum, managing budgets and supervising educators. Moody especially looks forward to aiding CCSD’s principals — possibly due to his excellent, seven-year experience as NC’s principal.
“I’ve loved watching the kids come on campus as a freshman and grow into who they were becoming. I’ll miss watching how successful [students] are at whatever [they] do — whether it’s in an academic class, a football game, fine arts concerts or community services. This place is a special place to me; it’s tough to leave, but I’m excited about the new district position and to continue the great things that are going on in CCSD,” Moody said.
David Bell, former NC assistant principal, will replace Moody at NC in the 2025-26 school year. Bell was appointed after 20 years working at Awtrey Middle School and NC — announced via CTLS on May 15 at 7:50 PM. Bell promises to focus on student and faculty safety, maintain proper resources and lesson maintenance and support extracurriculars. As Moody rises to support CCSD in his new leadership role, NC eagerly awaits the 2025-26 school year, featuring Bell’s familiar presence.
The Chant wishes Moody a bittersweet farewell and re-welcomes Bell as the NC principal.
