As the semester approaches more than halfway of its endmark, Fantasy Sports Club has lost valuable members. However, despite its declining attendance, the club keeps its spark. As dedicated founder and president, senior Spencer Maddox continues to create his infamous Powerpoint presentations and conduct weekly meetings.

Maddox feels that if students joined the club, they would enjoy their time there: “Going back to sophomore and junior year, I wanted to make a club where people can make new friends. If people join, they can beat their friends at games.”

Last year, a plethora of people constantly showed up to meetings. One meeting even assembled 30 people from all grade levels. However, this semester, five people at most attend every Wednesday.

“We haven’t really had a lot of newcomers and advertisements. Also, because it’s not Fantasy Football season, people think we don’t do other fantasy sports, but we do,” said Maddox.

Participants can set up brackets for a variety of sports, such as hockey, NASCAR, and basketball. Members can do this despite their league: beginner, intermediate, or expert.

“If people want to learn more about sports, they can talk to the resident expert, Spencer. They can also meet new people,” said senior Aidan Strassmann.

Several club members agree that other extracurricular activities and after-school sports contribute to the decline of Fantasy Sports Club. Nonetheless, club meetings only last 45 minutes every week, ensuring them worthwhile. To join, students should simply show up next Wednesday to Mrs. Rankenburg’s classroom at 3:30 after school.
