North Cobb’s finest academics gather to accept accolades.

In honor of academic excellence, NC students, faculty, and parents congregated at North Star Church for the Honors Night ceremony on April 22.

The culinary students created delicious treats for the guests at the 6:30 reception. They provided sweet hors d’ouveurs and shish kabobs. As students and parents chatted with faculty members, others found a seat in the dimly-lit and elegant sanctuary.

To begin the awards ceremony, Dr. Phillip Page called forth Mayor Tommy Allegood who announced the winner of the Acworth Mayor’s Cup and recipient of one thousand dollar scholarship. Senior Devin Jackson happily walked on stage after Allegood called his name and held out the Mayor’s Cup.

Afterwards, Senator Lindsey Tippens announced the Lindsey Tippens Scholarship. Many seniors received the scholarship with varying prices, including Alana Agcaolili, Cameron Bakkar, Andrianne Mino, and Austin Merideth.

Departmental awards and honors followed the Lindsey Tippens Scholarship. Department heads announced the award winners, in order of English, Math, Science, Social Students, World Languages, Physical Education, Career and Technology Education, and Fine Arts. Mr. Browning made the crowd laugh with his Latin remarks and faint humor.

Sergeant Henry A. Moran announced Marine Corps Awards, including Leadership, Espirit De Corps, Science Achievement, Distinguished Athlete, Scholastic Excellence, and Semper Fidelis Music. Seniors Calvin Duessel, Breanna Lowe, Joel Zaldumbide, Noah Cotton, Alana Agcaoili, Mary Francis McDaniel, and Zachary Wender walked away with these prestigious awards. Senior Dalton Becker received the American Legion Scholarship and senior Jalil Kuku won the Air Force ROTC Scholarship.

Magnet coordinator Mr. Stephenson announced the International Studies Scholarship winner, Kyle Rinaudo. Junior Kelsey Davis received the Agnes Scott Book Award. Daija Blocker earned the Heratio Alger Association Scholarship. Senior Jordan Fessehaie won JoAnne Taylor Scholarship. Senior David Kime, Preston Lahmann, and Jeel Oza received PTSA Academic Scholarship.

Multiple students also earned 500 dollar scholarships from the Kennesaw Business Association, including Dr. Carolyn Ballard Future Business Leader and Carol Thompson Journalism Scholarship. Fessehaie also received a Strength in Stilettos Scholarship worth 500 dollars. Senior Rinaudo and Oza also won the Cobb County Schools Foundation Scholarship.

Dr. Page announced Principle’s Awards, which included the science fair winners, Governor’s Honors Program winner, Herff Jones Principal’s Leadership Award, STAR Student, DECA winners, FBLA winners, SkillsUSA, PTSA Reflections, and McDonald’s 2014 Ray Kroc Youth Achievement Award.
