The program Teens in the Driver’s Seat spreads driver safety and awareness in the cafeteria today. Students come up and answer a question about safety for a chance to spin the wheel and earn prizes such as t-shirts, bracelets, rings, and bumper stickers. The program aims to keep teen drivers aware of the dangers of the road while educating them on how to drive cautiously.

Human Anatomy's beloved class pet, Chicken Wing the turtle embraced a rare day of freedom outside of her tank. She spent the entirety of third period prowling Mrs. Adams’ classroom while befriending her students. The class enjoyed spending the duration of class studying the anatomy and physiology of a turtle and comparing it to that of a human. “Having a class turtle is such a cool learning experience. I love getting to learn about my four legged friend and watching her explore the classroom,” NC sophomore Harmony Harvey-Morris said.

Honors geometry students across the school united this week to construct bridges using strictly uncooked spaghetti noodles and elmers glue. This project created challenges for many students forcing them to use their problem solving skills while incorporating what they have learned within the geometry classroom. NC sophomore Tyler Rogers overcame the challenge and constructed a bridge that held 72.8 pounds before collapsing. “I enjoyed this project. It was definitely a challenge, but in the end it was worth it when my bridge held the most weight and beat the school record,” Rogers said.

Anxiety among children, & those of high school age specifically, has become a major epidemic in recent years. According to a February 2019 Pew study, 70% of American teenagers consider it (along with depression) a major problem in their communities, an issue compounded among higher achievers. To remedy this, the school district will be showing a short film titled Angst this Wednesday night from 6 to 8 p.m; afterwards, a panel will take place to further educate attendees on mental health.
