The Chant

Rachel Maxwell
Rachel Maxwell, social media editor to The Chant, is a junior at NC. In addition to her editor position, she enjoys taking photos for the newspaper, as well as writing articles. She joined The Chant to advance her writing and photography skills and has proven to be an important asset to the staff. Photography has been something extremely important to Rachel since she got her first IPod, but she never didn’t take it seriously until 8th grade.    Outside of school, Rachel enjoys listening to music, like The 1975 and Frank Ocean. She loves how many different emotions music entails because they all “sound simple, but they have such deep meaning.” As an avid shopper, her wardrobe matches her spunky personality and catches the attention of those around her. She loves to shop for shirts because she always has a problem finding pants that actually fit her body. Her 14 piercings match her edgy style and are the perfect adornment to complete her look. Some of her favorites include sushi, although she doesn’t know why, and cats because she feels as though she can relate to their nature. Ironically, her favorite show is Friends because she never gets tired of it and credits it for cheering her up if she’s sad. Also, traveling has always been a huge part of Rachel’s life, as she’s traveled to an array of different places like Mexico and South Korea, and she hopes to travel to Japan in the future to engulf herself in the culture there. Although she isn’t entirely sure about what she wants to accomplish in her future, she wants to move to California and work with children in some way. Rachel attributes her wisdom about high school to her change in personality since middle school as well as a major maturity difference from then to now. One thing that she has learned from being in high school is that there will more than likely be drama, but in the end it will never be important. The realization that the people you come into high school may not always be the people that you leave with has instilled wisdom about friendship into Rachel and has influenced her decisions about friendships. In her spare time, Maxwell can be found hanging out with her best friends Nati, Tess, and Moya. Her friends are extremely important to her, and she doesn’t know what she would do without them. “Rachel is such an awesome friend. She is always there when we need her and is just the funniest and prettiest girl I know,” her friend Tess Williams says.    Written by Shannon Rapp
