Erin Davis is a senior a part of North Cobb’s international Studies Magnet. She is a writer, photographer and multimedia journalist who plans to explore documentary media work in her future.

She is currently working as a videographer and photographer for North Cobb’s digital newspaper, The Chant.

Erin is also currently working with VOXatl, an Atlanta based media platform and nonprofit, as an editor to their bi-annual investigative newspaper, as well as a facilitator in VOX’s year long initiative to bring youth voice to Georgia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities. Through them she also does community outreach, as well as also work with other partnering community non-profit organizations.

She pursues documentary multimedia work, and her interests lay in the intersections of social activism and arts and culture. Erin hopes to travel one day with her work to highlight marginalized communities and subcultures. She is deeply invested in the Atlanta arts and music scene, and spends whatever time she can downtown at various festivals, art shows and concerts.

Erin aspires to attend NYU or Howard after she graduates, and pursue a track in photo journalism and film. Hopefully she can not only bring beauty and truth through future works, but also uplift marginalized cultures and people.

Confusion and excitement sent Mrs. Lawson’s Honors American Lit class abuzz as she gave students a project to complete—except with a twist—no clear instructions, an abstract objective, and complete silence when students asked her confused questions. Students received a manila folder of supplies to construct the purpose of the project. “We picked up a manila folder with a coat hanger, string, a stick, an index card, black construction paper, and a notecard. All we know is that we have to relate the project back to the unit: Individuals Taking a Stand,” junior Aiden Minard said. Though abstract in concept, the project pushed students past their creative boundaries. “This project delves into our creativity by making us think more creatively and to better understand the theme of this unit,” junior Patrick Moran said.

Coat hanger + Notecard = ???

The guidance counselors office posted the November 2018 Scholarship Bulletin for college-bound students this month. It lists various financial aid and scholarship opportunities and outlines eligibility, deadlines, and award amounts. Though available to all NC students, the Bulletin serves as an especially relevant resource for juniors and seniors preparing to apply to colleges. Students can pick up the Bulletin in the front office before or after school and between classes, and can direct any questions towards NC’s guidance counseling staff.

As the spirit of thrills and chills fill the air, administration and teachers alike deck the halls in vibrant Halloween decorations, such as Ms. Gatlin, who adorns her door with creepy decorations that have a whimsical spin. Though inspired by the season of scares, these cobwebs and cutouts bring a festive vibe to the halls of NC, and encourage participation in seasonal events like next Tuesday night’s “Scream on the Green,” which will bring the community together to celebrate the spirit of Halloween through movie watching and trick-or-treating.

Spooky up NC!

The senior class met for the second time this year on Thursday, September 6. Seniors congregated in the PCA to learn about graduation details, life after high school and what their spring semester preparations will look like leading up to receiving their degrees and graduating in May of 2019. A representative from Herff Jones informed the students about caps and gowns, and they will have a table in the lunchroom on Thursday and Friday of next week for seniors to place their orders.

NCs clubs and extracurriculars kick off the year with a bang. Flyers for various clubs and activities line the halls of NC, preparing students for the upcoming events and meetings of this semester. A majority of extracurriculars start up in the next coming weeks, so if clubs such as creative writing, FBLA, book club, and many more peak your interest, look no further than the walls of NC.

The clubs are back in town!
