The second semester starts off with a roar of excitement preparing for the spring season sports. NC hosts their tryouts for Soccer, and Baseball this week, while Track and Field and Lacrosse plans to begin practices but become delayed due to the rainy weather. Junior Goalie, Philip Stark, practices his skills and warms up for a promising season.

Junior Harry Ford recently committed to Georgia Tech after playing baseball for 13 years. His hard work and consistent improvement paid off because he received an offer and partial scholarship which he looks forward to pursuing.

NC Varsity baseball comes to a bittersweet ending with NC being kicked out of the playoffs by the Newnan High School Cougars. The Warriors played in a two day series, winning one game 7-4 and losing the other two which resulted in the end of their season. However, Warriors looked forward to their banquet held on April 30th to celebrate the accomplishments achieved throughout the season.

The NC Warriors faced off against the Hillgrove Hawks for their senior night on Thursday, April 18. The Hawks, ranked #1 in the state, proved no competition for NC with the Warriors beating them 12-8. The highlight of the game, where senior Jonathan Young hit a grand slam and tied the game, displayed the Warriors’ skill and determination going into playoffs.

The NC Warriors faced off against rival Kennesaw Mountain Mustangs the week of April 8, 2019. The rival teams played competitively and passionately, NC winning one of the three games and demonstrating a valiant fight in the others. “Kennesaw Mountain series is always hard-fought and emotional like a rivalry series should be,” Head Coach Tom Callahan said.

Prather hopes to continue feeding his immense passion for baseball, sharing that he discovered his adoration for it in his childhood. “I wanted to play other sports when I was a kid, but once I got really focused on baseball, I just wanted to keep on playing baseball and I knew that it was what I wanted to do with my life,” Prather said.

Winning “the plaque” for this season (awarded after the team reaches the first round of playoffs), rests on the players’ mind, especially because they received their last plaque ten years ago. “My goal is to have a successful season with our fearless leader, Coach Callahan,” junior Cole Wright said.
