After turning down first an acceptance to Harvard then a scholarship from Vanderbilt University to pursue his dream of becoming a Soundcloud rapper, Magnet senior Chandler Quaile chose to correlate his look with his profession. Usually seen wearing a baseball cap turned to the side, a gold chain and multiple tattoos, “Lil Quaile” fits the stereotypical image of a rapper. “The next thing I’m going to do is invest in some gold teeth,” said Quaile.

Harvard-bound NC Magnet senior Chandler Quaile opens his acceptance letter to the prestigious school. What seemed just as impossible as getting a letter to Hogwarts, Quaile proved worthy of earning acceptance into his dream school.

Over the years, society constantly pushed relevant Native American issues aside. At NC, teachers have started to delve deeper into current Native American cultures and life, preparing the future generation to solve these problems. “We’ve made a push, especially in multicultural literature which is a senior-level class, to really dig into the issues that they have faced throughout history and that they are still facing today which I think is a more important issue thats completely covered up,” Ms. Yeganegi said.

Georgia House Representative Ed Setzler spoke about his role in the local government and important issues concerning students in the Performing Arts Center at NC during a town hall meeting on November 1. Set up by seniors Noemi Carillo and Chandler Quaile and moderated by Magnet Program Coordinator James Auld, all second period government classes spent that period and SPEAR in the hour-long meeting, listening to Setzler and other Georgia representatives, including Randy Scamihorn, Keli Gambrill, Ginny Ehrhart, and field representative for Barry Loudermilk, William Anderson.

Townhall preps NC seniors for future civic engagement

Students participated in a Townhall meeting, put together by the Polticlub, which held a Q&A with Cobb Commission School Board Member Randy Scamihorn, Georgia General Assembly Commissioner Keli Gambrill, Representatives Ginny Ehrhart and Ed Setzier and Field Representative William Anderson. Students received the opportunity to ask questions they made for the panelists.

The council, first founded under the leadership of former Magnet advisor David Stephenson, consists of over 30 elected Magnet students chosen by current advisor and former AP Human Geography teacher James Auld; they meet the last third Monday of every month from 7:45 to 8:10 in the Magnet Lounge.
