Submitted by NC students, each of the home screens pictured showcase the creativity now available to Apple users. The widget feature of iOS devices, something that no one expected, spiraled into a major obsession. Dozens upon dozens of students submitted their home screens; rendering it impossible to showcase them all. Something so simple such as the ability to customize a home screen to a variety of one’s liking ranks high on the list of ‘unexpected joys of 2020’.

As of 2019, the 1954 landmark Supreme court case Brown v. The Board of Education instituted the banning of racial segregation in public schools over 65 years ago. Racial segregation since then, although not fully abolished in the eyes of many, no longer legally dominates the public school system. The first racially integrated school in the United States, Lowell High School in Massachusetts, allowed the integration of all races with its first African American student, Caroline Van Vronker attending in 1843. Now as a modern society, amongst historical racism, students and teachers can proudly put their hands together seeing that although differences appear, the color of a persons skin will always remain a genetic pigment, a physical difference.
