Local communities and businesses praise healthcare workers at hospitals in their area. Especially during the early months of quarantine, people showed their support by writing letters, posting on social media, and making signs showing their gratitude to hospitals and their workers. Helping to flatten the curve by wearing a mask and maintaining social distancing supports hospitals too.

“I don’t feel like it is a good idea to send students back to school. First, I don’t see the virus going away anytime soon, and once school starts, social distancing won’t be able to function in a school. Second, we have already started online so we should finish the semester because the classes have already been scheduled,” 9th Grade Magnet Student Morgan Zitsch said. Cobb County students and parents think that it would not be a good idea to send kids back. COVID- 19 still thrives in America, which means students should not go to school regardless of what the school district says. According to a poll of the nation’s parents, 36% agree that their students should remain quarantined until there are no longer health risks.

Located next to the children’s section of the library, books wait in this closed-off room for their hours of quarantine to end. The North Cobb Regional Library set up an organized system on how these returned books get processed. “All of the books go into quarantine for at least 72 hours. So we have some people who are more at risk than others, so then if they, you know, say that they arent comfortable with it, they arent touching any books at all. So we’ll just have staff that comes in after the 72 hours, and we process them like we used to...when people return it, we have them return it into the book drop so we dont actually have to touch it right away,” Kristen Gwin, head of teen services, said.

From practicing social distancing to turning towards alternative methods of communication, citizens try their best to remain connected while in physical separation. The only solution as of now relies on patience and diligence in keeping oneself and other safes to prevent further spread.

Although the current global pandemic does little to relax high school students, the announcement that over 50 colleges waived their SAT/ACT requirements for the fall of 2021 applicants helps students sleep better at night. This adjustment also provokes colleges to begin research if this should become permanent in their application process.

Journalism students on The Chant staff of 1957 predicted the novel crisis of the coronavirus in 2020. The paper, written anonymously, described how the disease would pose a dangerous risk to the elderly. NC students remain shocked at the accuracy of the prediction. “I think it’s crazy how something written so long ago is predicting what’s happening now. I don’t really think that this is a coincidence but I don’t know any other explanation for it,” NC senior Nadia Aidan said.
