During the 2010s, the NC Warriors garnered a plethora of success in all sports. Competing in the GA 7A conference and a tough region, the Warriors appeared in several state championships and region championships. Atop the list featured the 2014 girl’s volleyball team winning the state championship, and many other successful teams. Mixed with high caliber student-athletes and strong coaching staff, NC developed a rich athletic history over the course of the decade.

Georgia House Representative Ed Setzler spoke about his role in the local government and important issues concerning students in the Performing Arts Center at NC during a town hall meeting on November 1. Set up by seniors Noemi Carillo and Chandler Quaile and moderated by Magnet Program Coordinator James Auld, all second period government classes spent that period and SPEAR in the hour-long meeting, listening to Setzler and other Georgia representatives, including Randy Scamihorn, Keli Gambrill, Ginny Ehrhart, and field representative for Barry Loudermilk, William Anderson.

Townhall preps NC seniors for future civic engagement

A student panel full of Magnet seniors answered prospective students’ questions about the Magnet program and what all the program offers. This room specifically answered questions pertaining to how Magnet helped seniors pick out where they wanted to attend college.

Magnet senior Ana Barahona started the Global Education Outreach club (GEO) in an effort to help children in developing countries. As her first project, she set out to collect gently used clothing to bring to Honduras. Barahona hopes to make a difference in their communities. “I feel a deep connection to GEO because it started from a personal project of mine. I decided about two months ago that I want to celebrate my 18th birthday in a different way after I saw a family friend do so. I wanted to give back,” Barahona said.

Reminiscent of the previously implemented “Warrior Wednesdays”, SPEAR more successfully benefits students and teachers with its improved organization and setup.
“Warrior Wednesday, as it was originally conceived, was more about enrichment and the idea that kids could choose what class they went to. If they needed help in a certain class they were basically required to go get help from that particular class. The hard part was it was really difficult to systematically keep track of who was going where and what they were doing. It was a loose or very chaotic situation at times from a school supervision standpoint,” Magnet Coordinator James Auld said.
