With a new year comes new resolutions, calendars, and, in this case, music. Several artists spanning genres plan to release albums early in 2021, with dates for touring lining up quickly afterwards.

Recognized for their inability to choose just one genre, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard’s newest album includes songs with influences from progressive rock, psychedelia, and middle eastern tonalities. “Compared to other albums that King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard has created, like Paper Mache Dream Balloon, where many of the songs sounded very similar to one another, each song in L.W. felt like they had their own unique sound, whether it was the instruments used or the genre of music,” junior Ellie Boyle said.

Effortless, Forrest Frank’s newest album, hit streaming services on August 21. Releasing two singles before his full project, Frank let his loyal followers decide when he would drop his collection of songs. Via Instagram, Frank announced that if his followers reached over 2,000 comments on his latest post, he would drop a new album. When there’s sunny skies and a mild breeze, Frank’s newest tunes always prevail. “I can’t stop listening to this,” NC Senior Ryan Tuchmann said.

Pop singer Selena Gomez released her newest song Lose You to Love Me on October 23, followed by Look at Her Now the next day. The songs spoke of empowerment and female strength, with supposed references to Gomez’s previous relationship with Justin Bieber. While Lose You to Love Me enticed fans, Look at Her Now featured a bland and chaotic chorus.
