Juniors Reagan Beech and Ashley Skaggs received yellow roses from National Honor Society (NHS) as a congratulatory invitation into the club. “NHS will allow us to further become involved in our school and community,” Skaggs said. NHS, an organization that encourages students to become leaders in their communities, distributed roses to new members today in order to formally welcome the new club members. “When the opportunity a-rose, I was thrilled,” Beech said.

NC attended the Georgia Scholastic Press Association (GSPA) conference on Tuesday, April 9. This year, The Chant left with five awards and one plaque for “General Experience News Website” under the category of large school. The Chant, proud of their accomplishments this year, hope to win more awards next year and will continue to publish amazing stories and photos.

NC’s special education class partners with neighborhood store ZoYo, offering students a sweet treat during the school day.  “We use the money that we earned from selling zo-yo to buying things for our skills lab so that we can practice so that after high school the kids learn how to be more independent and have the opportunity to potentially work,” special education teacher Rhona Hammond said. NC sells the frozen yogurt bi-weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so purchase them before they run out!

NC seniors declared Monday, March 25 as this year’s Senior Skip Day by not showing up to school. The seniors celebrated their last prom in high school on Saturday, dancing and partying the night away. They decided not to go to school on Monday, leaving the lowerclassmen to take all the empty seats.

Senior Lexi Williamson, one of many hoping for prom queen at NC’s prom on Saturday, March 23, poses with a tiara and snaps a selfie to campaign for prom court. “I’ve been on court before, but I’m really hoping to be queen because it’s my senior year,” WIlliamson said. NC students casted their final votes in homeroom on Wednesday, and candidates anxiously await the big reveal on prom night.

Seniors take their Economics EOC on Wednesday and Thursday this week. Starting next week, they will take the second half of their course and prepare for the Government EOC in May. “I feel very prepared for this EOC since I know all of the material, and I feel like I am going to do great,” senior James Craig said.

As prom creeps closer and closer, juniors and seniors frantically schedule last-minute appointments for their night to remember. Students make appointments for nails, hair, and makeup to ensure their pictures turn out as best as possible. T-minus three days until the Golden Gala!

Prom creeps up right around the corner as students make their final appointments and purchases for the memorable night this coming Saturday, March 23. Currently, the school sells tickets to students in the main cafeteria for $80. From choosing prom dresses, tuxes, matching shoes, and accessories, juniors and seniors anticipate one of the most memorable nights of their high school years.

A hired technician replaced the normal lights in the panel, located under the courtyard hallway, with a new LED bulb. Known as Corn Cob LEDs, this version of the eco-friendly bulb gains its name from a resemblance to the eponymous vegetable. A recent creation in clean energy, benefits of these bulbs include longer lifespans and comparable energy output relative to tradition luminescent bulbs.

Counting down the days to spring break—19 more days to be exact—students begin their preparations by booking condos to spend the days on the beach in their new swimsuits. “I am ready for spring break, I think everyone is. Spring break is the best break for sure, and I am excited to spend time at the beach,” sophomore Sydney Crowe said.
