Created by the NC Relay for Life (R4L) club, this banner lists the name of those in the Acworth-Kennesaw community, as well as NC as a whole, who survived their own bouts with breast cancer. It reads “Win the Fight!,” in reference to their goal to both eradicate cancer and improves the lives of those affected by it.

Through the end of this week, students will take the Cobb mandated Health Survey during their first block class. Students will follow the advisement schedule to ensure that every individual has enough time to thoroughly complete the survey. Students take this survey anonymously, with the overall purpose to gather data and make sure that students feel safe both inside and outside of school.

The Warrior’s basketball team will take on the Kennesaw Mountain Mustangs, a long-time rival, tonight January 15. Along with the competitiveness of tonight’s game, Relay For Life set the theme as “Pink Out” and will collect donations to fight against cancer. “I am excited to see how the game turns out since Kennesaw Mountain is such a huge rival to NC. I cannot wait to see everyone decked out in pink,” sophomore Drew Dodd said.

Baseball tryouts start this week, and the players prepare for the start of the long-awaited season. Winning “the plaque” for this season (awarded after the team reaches the first round of playoffs), rests on the players’ mind, especially because they received their last plaque ten years ago. “My goal is to have a successful season with our fearless leader, Coach Callahan,” junior Cole Wright said.

Today in Ms. Alexandra Yeganegi’s junior Magnet American Literature class, students read a banned book throughout the semester and made a project based off their book. Students dressed up as either the author or the character from the book and they made a capsule that represents their book. “I made this poster because in my book, 1984, it talks about ‘big brother,’ which is also known as the Government, and this plays a big aspect in the book,” junior Isabel Daez said.

Today, NC hosted their annual Tacky Sweater Day to spread holiday cheer all over the school. Students that wear silly sweaters receive a free cookie during lunch, as well as the pride of wearing their holiday spirit. “Seeing everyone in holiday sweaters just make people feel happy!” senior Emily LaPierre said.

Students wrap up their semester in anatomy with one of their last labs today December 17. The lab focused on the aspects of sheep brains and asks of students to compare the parts to their own brains. The lab demonstrates to students the parts of the brain and offers them a hands on experience to further enhance their learning in the class. “I look forward to seeing the inside of the [sheep] brains and seeing what it looks like so I can compare what happens inside our [people] brains. Its going to help me apply what we learned in class to real life and how they relate to each other. I also learn more about my own brain as well.” Junior Natasya Hioe said.

Confusion and excitement sent Mrs. Lawson’s Honors American Lit class abuzz as she gave students a project to complete—except with a twist—no clear instructions, an abstract objective, and complete silence when students asked her confused questions. Students received a manila folder of supplies to construct the purpose of the project. “We picked up a manila folder with a coat hanger, string, a stick, an index card, black construction paper, and a notecard. All we know is that we have to relate the project back to the unit: Individuals Taking a Stand,” junior Aiden Minard said. Though abstract in concept, the project pushed students past their creative boundaries. “This project delves into our creativity by making us think more creatively and to better understand the theme of this unit,” junior Patrick Moran said.
