The Magnet lounge, only available to students a part of the International Studies Magnet program, remains fairly popular amongst the Magnet student body. Though occasional messes and run down couches, the Magnet lounge remains a great area for students to debrief during their 26 minute lunch break. “I love the diverse people, food, and smells that the Magnet lounge brings” said Magnet junior Nathan Daniels.

Star football player, junior Cobe Singleton, and his teammates prepare for the first home game of the season against Etowah eagles. “We’ve been working hard at practice, in the weight room, and just going over all the plays, making sure everyone has it down,” Junior Cobe Singleton said. The teammates encourage one another and strategize for their upcoming plays. “Just go out there and play your game, play as a team, and we’ll come out on top,” Singleton said.

Throughout this week, NC librarian Lisa Wheeler facilitated a free book give away for students. She and her assistant, Karen Morrell, donated books to benefit anyone. “It originated from my moving this summer and my kids wanting to get rid of a lot of their books. My assistant, Karen Morrell wanted to do the same with her kids books. So we came up with this pile of books that we didn’t want to give away to just anybody we wanted to benefit any students at the school who enjoy reading,” Wheeler said. She plans on asking teachers and students if they would like to donate books of their own.

His students, along with the rest of NC’s student body ended the day early on Wednesday, August 28 due to a staff development day. While the students enjoyed their free afternoon, teachers planned for their future lessons.

Seniors showed their true personalities as they posed for ID pictures. “I dressed up as a VSCO girl because when I look back at my senior picture, to be like ‘oh yeah that was the time when all everyone was being a VSCO queen’ and lets be honest I was NC’s original VSCO girl... Over and out sksk VSCO girl,” said Magnet senior Chandler Quaile.

Rally club meets for the first time this year on Wednesday, August 21. Ran by Dr. Pamela Roach and Ms. Becky Young, the club tries to help spread awareness and raise money to help scientists find a cure for childhood cancer. The club fundraises all throughout September, childhood cancer awareness month, to help find a cure.

NC’s Greenhouse Gang puts together the annual Mother’s Day plant sale. This plant sale runs from Wednesday May 8 to Saturday May 11 which consists of flowers, hanging baskets, herbs, veggies, and succulents. Prices vary depending on what size and which plant students chose to buy.

The NC Band and Orchestra practices one last time before the Orchestra’s Spring Concert tonight; during this practice session, the two groups allowed the Special Education classes to practice on their own instrument. Though the two groups playing together may seem like a recipe for disorganization, they actually worked well together. This chemistry plays a large role in the success of tonight, as while the event itself may not deviate from the norm of their concerts, an additional player in their group must fit in with the group. “This concert is the final concert during the spring for the orchestra, and our full program is orchestra and band playing together. And it has every instrument: all the strings, all the winds, all the percussion. We’re playing a pretty normal program, so 15-20 minutes, and we’ll also be playing with United Sound”, sophomore Patrick Dill said.
