Biology teacher Sue Aughey started a genetics project that allows students to see the passing down of traits close up. While students study Mendelian genetics, they plant flowers in red solo cups and see how the traits affect the the color of the flower. This beautiful project blooms and gives the outside walkways of NC a pop of color.

Today, Mrs. Adams’ third period anatomy class partnered up to trace and label the body system. They sketched the body in both prone and anatomical positions, a fundamental concept in anatomy. “Its a fun activity and it helps me visualize how the body works,” junior Moya Perez said.

Mr. Stanhope’s physics class created posters, displaying what they learned in class. During the group project, students studied the forces that are placed on objects, such as gravity and friction.

Mrs. Samson’s first period environmental science class participated in a lab regarding water pollution. Each student received a micro invertebrate and took on different obstacles. When a student acting as pollution tagged another, they became new organism with a new task. The lab helped students recognize how pollution affects the organisms in our ecosystem.

Ms. Aughey’s Forensic Science classes are examining decomposition in a unique way, through chickens. Students were to hang or bury their raw chickens and check in every two days to see the natural changes occurring.
