Dodgeball tournament creates enemies amongst employees
December 28, 2013
In NC’s dodgeball tournament sponsored by the local Skyzone trampoline park, a team of five juniors and one senior emerged victorious.
“We play in tournaments at Skyzone, so we had plenty of practice and preparation for the school tournament,” team captain Adam Costello said.
The tournament included fourteen student teams and four teacher teams. With a single-elimination style, the tournament progressed quickly and heated up as the stakes rose higher and the prize grew more attainable. With a reward of $250 to the champions, teams pulled out all the stops to win.
Because the four teacher teams received byes into the quarterfinals, the student teams competed for the four remaining spots. Along with Costello’s eventual champions, the top four consisted of a squad of athletic upperclassmen that ultimately disappointed, a team filled with soccer players, and a lovable, ragtag bunch of scrappy players, captained by yours truly, that fell short of a Cinderella run.
“We had some good moments, especially when we took out a team of seniors without losing any of our own. It was a good run,” junior Ronak Mody said.
After noticing the balls proved difficult to throw, many participants found that catching remained a safer strategy. Costello’s team employed this tactic perfectly for the win.
With the strong turnout from the tournament, school leaders should attempt to renew the tournament for another year.
