Horror stories haunt Lake Lanier with tales of ghost towns, graveyards and ladies of the lake. While time exaggerates the town’s murderous history, it remains a testament to the realities of Southern Gothicism. The lake claims a far greater number of lives than its local counterparts and retains an air of dread from locals. Despite the tragic ambiance of the area, the lake continues to accumulate about 10 million visitors each year.
