Falling in love with fall happenings

Sophomore, Abbey Corley, indulges in a classic fall activity, picking out the perfect pumpkin to later carve and decorate. All sizes and shapes of pumpkins were found at this small pumpkin patch, on Cobb Parkway. “From picture taking to looking at all the pumpkins, this is my favorite fall activity,” said Corley.

Available all around North Atlanta, haunted houses, corn mazes, apple picking, and other autumn-themed activities only  happen for a limited time. These activities make great dates, family outings, or just to hang out with a friend..

Haunted houses, the best way to commemorate spooky season, occur all through October and early November. The three scariest haunted houses around the area, Folklore, Paranoia, and Netherworld, provide enough frights to last the whole year.

Folklore, Metro-Atlanta’s infamous haunted house, sits on Main Street in downtown Acworth. Comprised of three houses and a virtual reality coffin ride, Folklore offers individual tickets for each attraction or an all-access pass.

Paranoia, although located farther away in Canton, does not disappoint when it comes to fright factor. This house offers two attractions with individual tickets or group tickets. On certain days in October, the prices even drop for the haunted houses.

Lastly, Netherworld, one of America’s top-rated haunted houses, also offers escape rooms. Located in Stone Mountain, Netherworld haunts two houses excluding the escape rooms, The Awakened and Subject: Unknown. Each haunted house provides a chilling, memorable night.

“A haunted house is a great place to get you in the mood for spooky season. Folklore is my personal favorite because the actors do a great job at successfully scaring people,” sophomore Sophia Green said.

Pumpkin patches, another fall activity that people cannot miss out on, offer a less spooky way to celebrate the season.

Still Family Farm has a corn maze, pumpkin patch, and hayrides, which makes for the perfect fall day all at one location in Powder Springs. The entrance fee of fifteen dollars permits access to each autumn activity.

Sleepy Hollow Farm offers a corn maze, pumpkin patch, and tractor rides, and a Stranger Things tour. Pettit Creek Farms, located in Cartersville, has it all: a corn maze, pumpkin patch, hayrides, and a petting zoo. While visiting Pettit Creek Farms, guests even have the opportunity to ride a camel.

If visiting an apple orchard lands on your fall bucket list, Mercier Orchards of Blue Ridge offers apple picking, a bakery, cafe, and a store to satisfy your apple cravings. Mercier stands as the best place to find apple cider and apple cider donuts. Blue Ridge, a fantastic weekend destination in fall, extends into the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway where visitors can admire the fall foliage.

“Mercier has such great photo opportunities and amazing apple cider. It’s so fun at all times of the year, especially fall,” sophomore Abbey Corley said.

Currently happening at Stone Mountain, the annual Pumpkin Festival includes pumpkin-themed fun for families, such as glowing pumpkin displays and a pumpkin pie eating contest.

Another fall festival, the Day of the Dead celebration, will take place at the Atlanta History Center on October 28th. Guests can enjoy traditional dancing, crafts, and food while also learning about Mexican culture.

People embrace taking hikes during the fall to see the foliage, especially in Georgia, due to the beautiful views found here. Kennesaw Mountain, Pine Mountain, and Red Top Mountain bear the best scenery around for fall.

Smith Gilbert Gardens just started their annual Scarecrow Daze, where local businesses, families, and organizations place scarecrows throughout the gardens. The botanical gardens, located right in Kennesaw, also house spectacular fall scenery.

Another fall activity, ghost tours, take place in Marietta and Roswell throughout the month. Although not as spooky as haunted houses, they provide a nice walk for attendees to learn about the ghosts of Marietta and Roswell.

Lastly, to end the sweater weather season with a bang, participate in National Pumpkin Destruction Day and head over to The Rock Ranch all day to destroy your pumpkins on November 3.

Autumn, arguably the best season, includes a multitude of activities to enjoy the spooky atmosphere and beautiful fall foliage of the season.
