Four senior Lady Warrior basketball players anticipate November 12 signing day
November 10, 2014
After playing Warrior basketball, strengthening their athleticism, and establishing a lasting sisterhood with fellow players, seniors Kyrie’ Chandler, Kristian Carter, Ty Broadwater, and Chantel Strahorn have all verbally committed to play collegiate basketball.
“It’s a bittersweet feeling. It’s sad that I won’t be able to play with my girls after this, but that’s all the more reason to go out with a bang. I want a ring, and we are going to get it. I’m also excited to play on the next level, and I’m anxious to see how it will turn out,” Strahorn said.
For these girls, basketball holds more value than shooting baskets and scoring points. According to Strahorn, this sport builds character and has prepared them for different aspects of life. And after dedicating their childhood to becoming better athletes, they earned a spot to showcase their talents in college.
Chandler committed to High Point University in High Point, North Carolina; Carter committed to Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia; and Broadwater and Strahorn both committed to North Greenville University in Tigerville, South Carolina. Upon visiting the campuses, each player felt welcomed by their future teammates and coaches, which added to their excitement.
“When I went [to CSU] on my visits, the team automatically treated me as if I was a part of the team. It isn’t so far from home, and I feel like I can depend on the coaching staff for anything,” Carter said.
Although their time together will soon end, their friendship will surely endure distance and even competition. Warrior athletes become more than teammates throughout their time together.
“The other three seniors are basically my guide rails to ensure that I won’t get off track and our bond and support keeps me in line,” Broadwater said.
Signing day for these four athletes will occur on November 12 in the Media Center.
