Supporters from the girls’ (12-11) and boys’ (16-6) teams attended to cheer the Warriors for their athletic contributions. Tuesday night, January 24 spotlighted the match between NC’s varsity boys basketball team (16-3) and the Kennesaw Mountain Mustangs (11-9) for their 19th game of the season. A fast pace and adequate defense from both teams finalized a close 44-40 score, adding to NC’s win streak of three consecutive wins. NC faces the Wheeler Wildcats (12-6) January 27 on the Wildcats’ court with hopes of redeeming themselves after the Wildcats reigned superior at their previous match-up against NC January 10 with a final score of 54-58.

The NC Lady Warriors’ varsity basketball team (5-5) took on Harrison’s Hoyas (2-6) November 10 at home in the Arena. With a packed student section and coming off of a win against the South Paulding Spartans (0-7), the girls played confidently. Unfortunately, minor mistakes led the Warriors to slip up and the Hoyas ended up winning in a tight and well-played game with a final score of 33-40.

The NC varsity boys basketball team’s (8-0) willpower helped their victory against Harrison with a score of 57-53. The Warriors remain undefeated, and players and spectators become thrilled about what the season holds for the Warriors.

The Lady Warriors ended their season on Tuesday, February 15. Seniors, Dayuna Colvin and Mohassen Thomas continue their basketball careers at Butler University in Kansas and Huntingdon College in Alabama respectiely, following graduation this spring. Remaining juniors, sophomores and freshmen plan on returning and playing with the Warriors in the upcoming season. “The girls played hard and you could tell that the team was really close and really there for each other. I think thats what makes up a team, and if you really have that sisterhood. I think thats exactly what the girls team had,” sophomore varsity cheerleader Kayla Pierrepaul said.

Senior forward captain Alex Acosta (35) ran the court at NC’s first region game Tuesday right alongside junior forward Terrell Reeves (30). Acosta started off the 2021-22 season playing his 3rd and final varsity season with the NC Warriors as the lone senior on the team. Acosta motivates his team before games, getting them hyped in the locker room and preparing them to have fun and to stay positive when playing.

NC magnet senior Alex Acosta collected several Division 2, Division 3, and NAIA collegiate offers over the course of the summer. Acosta attracted attention from college coaches from all over the country due to his tenacity as a finisher and rebounder. Acosta began his high school career on the freshman team but quickly moved up to the varsity squad. In his sophomore year, Acosta provided quality minutes on the 2019-2020 team that reached the region championship. Acosta looks forward to a bright senior season filled with impressive team wins and memorable moments with his teammates.

During the 2010s, the NC Warriors garnered a plethora of success in all sports. Competing in the GA 7A conference and a tough region, the Warriors appeared in several state championships and region championships. Atop the list featured the 2014 girl’s volleyball team winning the state championship, and many other successful teams. Mixed with high caliber student-athletes and strong coaching staff, NC developed a rich athletic history over the course of the decade.

Teachers and students rarely get to interact with one another outside of a classroom environment, and the basketball game at Friday’sprovided NC teachers and students to interact.
