Taking root during the 17th century, New York City (NYC) rolled out the red carpet for ambitious inhabitants and curious tourists, near and far. The city took rise in popularity during a time of high manufacturing, shipping and fashion. NYC quickly began to promote tourism, especially during the holiday season, when color and high spirits fill the city with excitement. “My favorite time to go to NYC is definitely in the fall, cause it’s not [too] cold yet, and I love seeing all the trees change color, and [watching] the city get ready for the holidays. I’m going to [NYC] for Christmas this year and I’m very excited to see the city in the winter and do all the festive things the city has,” junior Paige Fitz said.

As summer vacations and school breaks come, Georgia residents travel to The Big Apple for recreation and amusement. Even though they live within reach of Atlanta, New York City (NYC) brings a refreshing sense of culture and satisfaction to tourists that no other place can.

“New York is so diverse not only in [the] demographic of people but also in the scenery. I love how I could be looking over the city from Rockefeller Center to being in Washington Square Park, to on the pier looking at the Brooklyn Bridge. I love all the art that’s around the city, from murals and sculptures to street musicians. Every time I go [to NYC] there is always something new to do, or see and experience. It never gets old,” junior Paige Fitz said.

Voted as the top Dream City in the United States, NYC holds excellent college programs such as New York University (NYU) and Columbia University, bringing people from around the globe. Ten spots ahead of Georgia, New York ranks as the 16th best state for education in the United States.

NYC also provides a comfortable and accessible lifestyle distinct from other cities. Easy and excellent shopping excites NYC’s fashion lovers and the various cultures and food NYC residents explore daily.

Even though thousands of people dream of living in NYC, several use the bustling city as a tourist spot for a weekend trip. Famous Central Park, centered in the middle of Manhattan, and The High Line, located above the streets of Manhattan’s west side, serve as family-friendly attractions that people can visit any day free of cost.

Especially during the holidays, the city welcomes families to take part in Christmas celebrations with their loved ones. Experiences such as Radio City Christmas Spectacular, holiday light displays, Christmas markets and SantaCon invite a multitude of festive individuals to NYC during the winter months.

Popular fan-favorite television shows ranging from the beloved sitcom, “Friends” to “Blue Bloods”, a police procedural drama television series bring viewers from around the country to visit the city where their treasured film took place. Both shows influence the audience to come to visit their set and receive a taste of life in NYC at the same time.

Regardless the reason people take an interest in The City that Never Sleeps, the city offers a variety of factors suitable for everyone. The residents receive endless career and education opportunities, and the tourists experience festivals and other NYC traditions.

“I hope one day I will be able to live [ in New York City]. In the best way possible I feel as if I blend into the city with everyone else. I’m my happiest when I’m there,” Fitz said.
