NC athletes, teachers and coaches will gather around the NC Arena April 1, 2023, to watch the unveiling of the school’s newest addition. Welcoming a pool to NC will allow the swim and dive team to practice at home and most importantly, welcome an exciting, year-long sport: water polo.

For athletic individuals looking to play in the water while pursuing their athletic abilities, NC’s newest sport will open a new window of opportunity. April 1, 2023, NC will unveil a project the construction class has worked on diligently for a decade: a pool. With this newest renovation, NC will incorporate a water polo team to expand its athletic program a step further.

“Because I am a senior, this was my fourth and final year of working on the pool. I honestly wish I could stay an extra year. That’s how much I love water polo. I could never play it for NC, and that’s why I joined the construction class. I guess I ended up contributing in some type of way. If you know what I mean,” magnet senior Emilio Mendoza said.

The sport’s season spans year-long and will begin their tryouts this summer to prepare for the first match in August. NC will include freshman, JV and varsity teams to cater to all athletic levels.

Under the leadership of U.S. History teacher and wrestling coach Michael Dillard, the water polo team anticipates a perfect regional record. Dillard developed various water polo workouts and has prepared to create the newest and best team sport in NC yet.

“I want to tell everyone to try out for the team. We have never had a water polo team before, and it may be good. You might be the best—the Tom Brady of water polo. Also, if you don’t want to play, show out to our matches, we can really use the support. I am the best coach ever and I will make this team better than any NC team. Even our football team,” Dillard said.

April Fools, you fool!
