A new form of media entertainment appears on the horizon as YouTube series begin to rise in popularity. These independent shows find funding by their fans or receive company sponsorships.

The productions, run by a small group of people, film over just a series of months in order to give the fans an entertaining show that will keep them on the edge of their seats. The top three series, The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, created by Vlogbrother Hank Green, Video Game High School created by Freddie Wong, Matthew Arnold, and Brandon Laatsch and The Adventures of Peter & Wendy created by Adam Laupus, currently circulate with fandoms. Each of these productions are just a taste of what is to come for the YouTube series industry.

The Lizzie Bennet Diaries: A-

For lovers of Jane Austen novels and other classic books, the YouTube series, The Lizzie Bennet Diaries offers an entertaining alternative to normal YouTube shorts. Created by the Vlogbrother, Hank Green, The Lizzie Bennet Diaries features a modern adaption of the famous novel Pride & Prejudice. The main character Lizzie Bennet must overcome the obstacles presented to her by her family and the pretentious seeming Mr. Darcy. This series contains 100 episodes and completed with the premiere of the 100th episode. Although this series’s primary audience comprises of classic literature lovers, the relatability of the modern spin keeps all audiences entertained.

Video Game High School: A

Combining animation and realistic film styles, Video Game High School offers an exciting new brand of youtube series. The producers of the show, Freddie Wong, Matthew Arnold, and Brandon Laatsch, created each video game simulation to make it look like the human characters are actually in the game. While viewing explosions, racing scenes and intense battle scenes, viewers find themselves unable to turn away. Interesting and well developed characters allow the story to keep a strong plot and the completed three seasons are available for all binge-watchers. Overall, Video Game High School is a quality series all viewers will enjoy.

The New Adventures of Peter and Wendy: B+

For the fans of the classic Disney movie Peter Pan, The Adventures of Peter & Wendy gives the audience a glimpse of a modernized, real version of Neverland. The show takes place in Neverland, Ohio, a fictional town, where the characters Wendy Darling and Peter Pan live. Wendy is an aspiring journalist who dreams of traveling the world, while Peter feels comfortable where he is. Through hilarious twists and turns, moments that cause the audience to tear up, and romantic scenes, Wendy and Peter attempt to figure out their new adult lives together.
