With October ushering in a warm and spooky vibe, countless people can not contain their excitement for the thrilling events and activities that take place during the scary season. Haunted houses remain a key talking point when planning what events to attend during the fall. Known for their creepy walk-through attractions, Nightmares Gate and Folklore Haunted House stand as two popular haunted houses in Georgia. Similarly, both houses offer affordable tickets and memorable scares.
Found in Acworth, Georgia, Folklore Haunted House, crafted to create a thrilling and mysterious adventure for guests, holds two cryptic attractions. Telling a creepy yet captivating story, the Winter Estate attraction found within Folklore tells a fictional tale about the Winter family and the unthinkable horrors that take place in the Winter Estate. The second attraction, Maze of Madness, aims to scare guests and ensure attendees do not receive the same experience twice; the maze remains unpredictable.
“I loved the adrenaline rush that came from running through the house with my friends. The combination of loud cracks, the actors and dark and flashing lights made the experience so immersive and fun. Going through it with my friends was so exciting and made everything more hilarious. I would give it an eight out of 10, only because it was a bit expensive for being kind of short. Because I get scared easily, I won’t be going to another haunted house in a while, but I think it was such fun and it bonded my friends and me together so much,” magnet senior Leika Badstibner said.
Folklore Haunted House also offers guests three additional attractions. Midway of Mayhem allows guests to win carnival prizes by playing horror-themed games. The second attraction, the Casket Ride, allows people to climb in a simulator that mimics imprisonment in a coffin while facing horrifying music and off-putting smells. The third attraction in Folklore, while not necessarily a spooky walkthrough, stands as a gift shop for guests to collect souvenirs or snacks to remember their time at the haunted location. Folklore also holds scary attractions for December and February from Christmas Nightmares coming December 7 to My Bloody Valentine opening February 2025.
“The best part about Nightmares Gates is definitely going to be the attention to detail with all the variety in rooms and just the atmosphere really sets the mood. I would rate my experience [as] a nine out of 10. The staff was super friendly, the lines weren’t terrible and the staff spaced out parties so when you went through the rooms not everyone was closely packed together inside. If you’re looking for a haunted house that makes you feel like you’re stuck in a movie the whole way through, this one is going to be the one you want to go to,” junior Lisa Scranton said.
In Douglasville County, Nightmares Gates offers three popular haunted houses for their guests to explore. Debuting earlier this year, the Delusional Descent haunted house portrays a corrupt science lab where workers use human brains for scientific purposes, creating mysteries and problems throughout the walkthrough. The second house called the Longview Estate, tells a tale about the dark past that remains in a haunted house, along with shadows that feed off the fear of the guests who fight for survival. The third and final house, Terror Falls, tells a chilling story about a swamp that multiple people walked through but mysteriously disappeared and never returned.
These haunted houses help guests create lifelong memories with their friends and family, while also empathizing with the spooky and fun factors of the fall season. Haunted houses stand as thrilling and exciting activities for people who enjoy feeling adrenaline, solving mysteries and enjoying a proper scare.
