One can explore the intricacies of language and its development in various cultures. The definition of linguistics includes the study of Morphology, syntax, phonetics and semantics. Specific branches of linguistics include sociolinguistics, dialectology, psycholinguistics, computer linguistics and applied linguistics. Subdisciplines such as biolinguistics and psycholinguistics bridge several of these divisions. “Linguistics is a title I’m never quite certain of because it very often relates to the etymology of languages. But in grammar school, I studied French for six or seven years because the school system was different there. How much do people know about language learning? In today’s society, language plays a major role in the media. Different countries, movies and music genres have remained popular since the early 2010s. For example, K-pop, Indian dramas and Japanese game shows all originate in different languages. “In telenovelas, a lot of people teach themselves the languages just by watching soap operas. So, just take advantage of everything you have online. There’s a lot of things and you can definitely learn a language on your own, just use your resources,” Spanish teacher Lorna Fair-Tham said. Connecting people with native speakers allows for conversation practice, and highlights the real-world benefits of language fluency. “The best way, especially with all the tools you have now, is taking advantage of the internet and social media — definitely follow people who speak the language. There are a lot of podcasts that you can listen to. And follow YouTubers, there are a lot of people who travel around and go to different countries.
