Magnet junior Jasmine Robinson, owner of three championship rings, initially found her passion for running at 13 years old when she began running at Kell High School. After completing her first race, Robinson fell in love with the sport and knew she wanted to continue it in the future. Since then, she has worked extremely hard to run to her best potential by prioritizing her body and health. Robinson also decided to join a weight training class during the 2024-2025 school year to further her training.
“I have long practice weeks, especially during the school season because I usually run with the NC team, and an hour later go to my club team’s practice. It’s not something I have to do, but I feel like overloading my body with workouts is how I am where I am now. Even more important than lifting weights every day and eight workouts a week, is the recovery after all of them. I typically take one ice bath a week to get rid of inflammation buildup. I stretch all the time, do plyometrics (plyos) and refuel my body with foods that I need because I am constantly beating down on my body. If I don’t do these things, I will find out and feel every muscle in my body the next morning,” Robinson said.
Since Robinson has taken numerous Advanced Placement (AP) classes and continues to add rigorous classes to her schedule, she has learned various methods to balance her life. Over time, Robinson developed a routine to help balance her social life, track, homework and time for herself. Although she feels overwhelmed with work at times, Robinson maintains her sleep routine as she knows the importance of sleep to athletes. When athletes lack sleep, it could result in a higher chance of obtaining injuries. Like other student-athletes, Robinson commonly experiences mental fatigue, but she has learned to balance it as she knows the importance of every track practice and meets.
“Jasmine’s work ethic is insanely impressive. In every class I’ve had with her, she’s always able to put in 100% and balance school with track. She’s an amazing friend and an even better student. Jasmine never falls behind with her work despite having to miss some school days for track. Even though her schedule is so busy, she always shows up to help at different events like magnet open houses and volunteering for the Rally Foundation. In class when we have group projects she never slacks and is often the leader of our groups. What impresses me the most is even with an extremely busy life and workload, Jasmine adds extra AP and difficult classes to her workload to further challenge herself,” magnet junior Mia Diaz said.
Robinson stands as not only an inspiration to Georgia high school track athletes but also to her peers. Missing school and spending her weekends at track meets, Robinson still finds a way to maintain her satisfactory grades. Numerous individuals look up to Robinson mainly due to her humility and ability to always offer help and advice to her teammates. Although she has achieved countless awards, worked with various popular brands like Nike and received an invite to the Junior Olympics, Robinson never flaunts her successes and continues to work harder to achieve more goals.
“Jasmine is extremely goal-oriented and always hungry for more. Her goals are ambitious, but her work ethic is greater. I think her faith in God gives her the patience and humility she needs to continue growing as an athlete and striving to be the best,” senior teammate Keira Beaumont said.
Various scouts from colleges including the University of Florida (UF), University of Georgia (UGA), Louisiana State University (LSU), University of Miami (U Miami) and others have shown interest in Robinson and hope to provide her offers. Robinson plans to continue track in college and hopefully further into her future.
The Chant wishes Robinson good luck in her final seasons at NC and her future ahead.
