Joe Jonas, former lead singer of the Jonas Brothers, recently released a unique new song, “Cakes By The Ocean,” with his new band, DNCE.

Jonas and his brothers Nick and Kevin made their debut with the Jonas Brothers in 2007. With their unique sound, the Jonas Brothers soon became a pillar of pop culture, quickly churning out hit songs, such as “S.O.S” and “Year 3000.” Despite their popularity, the Jonas Brothers announced their separation in 2013.

The youngest brother, Nick Jonas, quickly went on to create his own solo career. The oldest brother, Kevin, starred in a reality tv show titled Married to Jonas. But what happened to Joe? To many of his fans, it seemed as if he simply vanished.

Recently, however, he proved this notion false, releasing his new song “Cake by the Ocean.” The song displays the same upbeat, comical vibe that the average listener would expect from him, but former fans of the lead singer should not expect his new song to sound anything like his former music.

In the past, the Jonas Brother’s music maintained a pop rock image, but this new song does not follow the same path. The new song’s fast tempo complements the a steady beat.

The first time listening to the song actually provided a disappointment, because it failed to fit the mold of the former Jonas. However, after listening to the song more frequently, it became easier to discern that while the sound differs from that of the past, it does not sound bad. The beat also makes up for the strange lyrics.

While the song itself does not categorize as groundbreaking, “Cake by the Ocean” still appeals.
