Kennedi Tolbert is a sophomore at NC that is involved in the magnet program and its council. She runs on the cross country and track teams at NC. Her primary interests include history, sociology, government and anything she doesn’t know yet.

When Americans examine the health and obesity crisis, especially in the United States, they tend to blame the market’s way of over-pricing healthy foods and maintaining lower prices for unhealthy foods. Nonetheless, citizens of other countries also face similar factors such as prices and the types of food, however, their citizens do not experience the same health problems such as high obesity rates and weight-related problems that occur in the United States. Given this, people and their poor choices—not the food or the cost— remain the reason for the US health crisis.

Numerous students participate in sports worldwide. The concerns that students and their parents hold regarding the negative impacts of sports may prevent any participation in sports. Other factors may come about on why a student cannot play sports such as financial difficulties or pre-existing health concerns, but if the opportunity arises, students should engage in sports. The benefits of playing sports outweigh the cons.

Copious amounts of NC students do not leave their houses without a pair of headphones. Students enjoy constantly listening to sounds at school varying from music, nature and even silence. Students' working habits typically influence what they hear in their headphones, however, they may find that their music preferences differ from those of their friends.

HYBE and BeLift hosted a Korean-Pop survival show “R U Next” to form a global girl group I’ll-IT. “R U Next” faced various controversies during and after the show ran on television. Mentions of favoritism, nepotism and rigging caused several scandals for the show in the media. Despite that, the final lineup for “R U Next” was released September 1. The group has not announced their debut plans yet, but after the creation of the group’s social media accounts, their official debut appears close.

Previously a fourth-generation K-pop leader, ITZY dominated the charts and stole the hearts of fans. Due to poor marketing, poor management and other factors in their recent comebacks, ITZY did not perform as well on their previous songs in the chart. JYP’s history of insufficient management began to circle back to ITZY, and their discography declined in success. Increasing competition and aggressiveness along with poor marketing of the K-pop environment became factors that caused ITZY to begin to fall behind.

After a long season, NC’s cross country teams ran at regionals and the varsity girls placed third. Anticipating the state championship on November 4, the girls will attend for the second year in a row. The boys have started to train for next season with the hopes of making state next year.

Retired competitive cross-country(XC) runner, track runner and NC magnet alumna Alexis Christian now attends the University of Georgia. Although she does not currently run and wants to provide her body with a break, she plans to return to running recreationally. Her positive attitude and outlook left a permanent mark on the NC XC team and the other aspects of her life. Even though the team did not officially award any student a team captain position, she took on that implied role.
