Students and Teachers adapt quickly to a new style of learning taking on the classroom digitally. Psychology teacher, Coach William Hargis, multitasks work with his home life, not only being a teacher to his students but to his kids. “During the quarantine, I have been trying to keep my sons caught up with their schoolwork while helping my AP and On-Level students focused and dedicated on their coursework,” Hargis said.

Two Warrior alumni visited psychology classes today to talk about the field of school psychology. The two psychologists, Kelli Jones and Ashley Jackson, used to be students in AP Psychology teacher Ms. Shelnutt’s class in 1988 and 2007. After taking the course, they felt empowered to carry on a career in psychology. “I couldn’t be more proud to have my former kids here. To think that I’ve planted a seed that has blossomed into successful careers for them is quite fulfilling. It makes me very happy and proud to be a Warrior,” Shelnutt said.

Will Hargis teaches AP and on-level Psychology along with Melanie Shelnutt, who will retire later this year. In addition to advising multiple clubs, Hargis will take over the full AP psychology program beginning next school year. “I enjoy being a role model for the kids, and I have never regretted taking on so much in the school. I know that I am ready to take over the AP psych program,”Hargis said.

Today guest speaker and former NC principal Dr. Phillip Page visited all the AP psychology classes. He lectured students about work motivation from the psychological perspective. He spoke about how to be successful in work and shared his personal experiences with success and failure.
