Sophomores Jenna Saaskilati and Jaden Coleman, take on the challenge of their first Honors Chemistry lab by plating pennies, turning them from a copper brown to a bright silver and gold. By carefully following specific procedures they learn about chemical reactions and changes. “We are learning about chemical changes in this lab,” Coleman said.

Honors Chemistry students take on the task of plating pennies as their first lab of the school year. This means turning shiny copper pennies into silver and gold pennies. Holding their Bunsen Burner securely, they light their burner ready to take on the task.

On January 9, field testing for American Literature started with selected students at NC. This test, administered on the computers in the media center, took class time away from students and put them at a disadvantage for the start of the semester. As some chose simply not to show up, students questioned why they needed to take this time consuming test. “I have no idea why I was chosen to take this test, but I definitely wasn't planning on taking it,” senior Jordan Hicks said.

Mrs. Samson’s first period environmental science class participated in a lab regarding water pollution. Each student received a micro invertebrate and took on different obstacles. When a student acting as pollution tagged another, they became new organism with a new task. The lab helped students recognize how pollution affects the organisms in our ecosystem.
