Gotham

Gotham tells the story of a Gotham City before the emergence of Batman. The series dives deep into the backgrounds of characters like Bruce Wayne, The Penguin, James Gordon, and Alfred Pennyworth. The show also focuses on the psyche of these fan favorites, showing their backgrounds and how they develop throughout the series. The show revolves mainly around detective James Gordon and how he promises to uncover the truth behind the death of Thomas and Martha Wayne; later on, the series shows the conflict each character faces with living in the crime and gang-affiliated area and the struggle of trying to live in a city where everything seems to worsen.

Cloak and Dagger

Marvel fans searching for a new television show to binge can look forward to Cloak and Dagger. The show continues to gain popularity since the Hulu platform aired on June 7, 2018. Cloak and Dagger, a show based in New Orleans, tells a story about two teens, Tyrone and Tandy, who ended up involved in an explosion that gave both supernatural abilities. This television series dives into issues impacting different groups of people on a daily basis, such as racism and human trafficking. This allows viewers to connect with the characters on a personal level, giving the show an authentic feel.

All American

All American first aired on The CW on October 10, 2018, and later moved to Hulu after its rapid growth in popularity. The show tells the story of former NFL player Spencer James and the struggles he experienced on his rise to a career as a professional football player in the NFL: viewers see how his talent on the field lands him a chance to play at a school in Beverly Hills under the supervision of coach Billie Baker. Baker takes Spencer under his wing and helps guide him through the struggles he experiences traveling back and forth from Crenshaw and Beverly Hills. The writers also include the difficulty of coming from the rough part of town and moving to a high-end school, where everyone treats Spencer as a criminal because of his background. They also include the conflict he faces when he returns to Crenshaw as the other people in the neighborhood see Spencer as a changed person because of his transfer to the high-end school in Beverly hills.

Marvel’s Runaways

Marvel’s remarkable history in the film making industry created an amazingly large fan base and helped make their mark on the entertainment industry. Their latest project, Marvel’s Runaways, (first airing November 21, 2017, on Freeform) tells the story of a diverse group of teens that team up against their parents, members of an organization called the Pride. At the beginning of the second season, they decide to live on the run after their parents’ actions become too much for them to handle, thus acquiring their nickname as the “Runaways”. Throughout the season, the audience learns more about each character and their growth from the start of the show until now.

Rick and Morty

Rick and Morty first aired on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block on December 2, 2013, and transferred to Hulu shortly afterward. It tells the story of a young boy, Morty, who receives a surprise visit from his Grandpa Rick, a mad scientist who loves creating odd gadgets and taking part in crazy adventures. Throughout the show, the viewers see the title duo travel the universe and see how they end up in various shocking situations. The series makes sure to use their crude humor and violence to surprise viewers and give them something different to watch as opposed to watching the same old same old.
