Legendary actor and comedian Bob Saget died on Sunday, January 9 at the shockingly young age of 65. While in the midst of a standup comedy tour, deputies found Saget dead at a Ritz Carlton in Orlando due to currently unknown causes. Known best for his role of Danny Tanner on the popular sitcom “Full House”, the tragic news devastated countless Americans because of the icon he served as. His edgy, raunchy comedy work, however,  creates a stark contrast with the family friendly household name he previously made for himself. 

In addition to starring in more than 30 films, Saget served as a father to three daughters, a husband to his beloved wife, as well as a highly admired co-star. Regardless of controversies that people associate Saget with, fans will remember him as a true icon locally, nationally and even globally.  

“Full House was impactful in my life because Danny Tanner is always what I wanted in a dad; don’t get me wrong my dad is awesome, but he was always so sweet with his kids especially as a single father. I didn’t really know him as a person but he seemed like a very stand-up guy,” junior Annisha Brown said.

Born on May 17, 1956, in Philadelphia, Saget attended Temple University majoring in film, where he then graduated and found his way into the television industry. Aired in 1987, the hit sitcom “Full House” debuted where Saget played a widowed father living in a house with his three daughters, brother-in-law and best friend. “Full House” made a name for multiple iconic actors like the Olsen twins, Candace Bure, John Stamos,etc. It truly began to gain traction in the late 80s and early 90s, and still remains a household favorite for modern generations. This resulted in the spin off show, “Fuller House” released in 2016, containing most of the original cast, including Bob Saget. 

“At the time that Full House was really popular my mom actually didn’t want us to watch it because she was afraid we would be bratty like the characters, but my sister didn’t care and watched it anyway, so I would watch it with her. I really liked the show. I feel like it’s classic TV for the millennial generation and Danny Tanner was such a giant nerd but also such a good dad. It made him an interesting character to see a single dad who was supportive of his daughters but also trying to live his own life,” American Lit teacher Alex Yeganegi said. 

In the midst of his acting career, Saget embraced his comedic side and began hosting the show “America’s Funniest Home Videos (AFV)” in 1989. This show includes amatuer videographers submitting funny videos of their kids, pets, friends in funny predicaments.  When “Full House” eventually came to an end in 1995, Saget focused on “AFV” and his blossoming comedy career. He began going on comedy tours around the country and starred on shows like “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and “The Tonight Show”.  

“You can make people laugh and it might not be their cup of tea, but you’re doing something great for people. That’s why I’m doing it. We all have the same joke, which is that laughter is the best medicine,” Saget said in an interview.
