Pink Floyd continues to influence a vast amount of genres, with their imaginative and experimental sounds in albums such as “The Wall”, “Wish You Were Here” and “Dark Side Of The Moon”. Their 1973 album, “Dark Side Of The Moon”, acts as a perfect example of the experimental sound in all of the songs, including “Time” “Breathe”, “Us and Them” and several others. As the album became one of Pink Floyd’s most popular albums, it solidified their music’s stance in rock history forever.

“I’ve listened to Pink Floyd for years and it’s so hard to decide which album is my favorite. The band has been so influential in not only the rock genre but in the music industry as a whole. It’s amazing that the Dark Side of The Moon album is 50 years old even though it sounds more modern,” freshman Jackson Garnier said.

“Dark Side of the Moon” contains nine songs that all interconnect. When listening to the album from beginning to end, the introductions and conclusions of songs seamlessly transition into one another. Various songs do not feature lyrics and contain an instrumental feel or solo, such as the song “On The Run” or “The Great Gig In The Sky”, which displays an intense vocal solo. Several of the songs in the album follow a normal rock song layout, with heaps of singing and guitar solos, such as “Time”, and “Money”.

“‘Dark Side of the Moon’ is one of my favorite albums of all time. It has to be one of my favorite rock albums of all time, especially with the solo in ‘Time’. Although I wasn’t a big Pink Floyd fan at first, my music taste has really matured and I love them now. The 50th anniversary is a wonderful accomplishment, but I’m also excited for ‘Wish You Were Here’s’ 50th anniversary in two years,” freshman Jackson White said.

The songs “Time” and “Money” feature beautiful and melodic solos composed by one of rock’s greatest guitarists David Gilmour, who also sings for the band. The songs also exhibit meaningful lyrics that relate to everyday life, and life’s biggest fears. Several songs also contain saxophone solos, such as “Us and Them” and “Money”.

“Pink Floyd is one of the greats, and ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ is a perfect example of their work. It’s the best option if you are looking for relaxing rock music, instead of a fast and loud sound. ‘Us and Them’ is my favorite song but I love the solo that’s in Time as well,” sophomore Henry Witchsy said.

As the band members continue to age into their 80s, they stop to celebrate “Dark Side of The Moon” and the art they created. Pink Floyd released new merchandise commemorating this accomplishment, such as new shirts and 50th-anniversary edition vinyl of the album. The album even influenced musicians such as Lil Yachty, who made an album named “Let’s Start Here”, which paid tribute to Pink Floyd’s ‘70s classic.
