Representing memorable moments in a high school student’s life, NC hosted its annual homecoming on Saturday, October 21. Students from all grades enthusiastically embraced the event’s theme, “Night in Vegas.” As students meticulously selected their outfits and tackled the numerous tasks associated with preparing for homecoming, the excitement among the student body peaked.
In the week leading up to homecoming, students participated in a series of dress-up days to show off their school spirit. The themes included barbeque dad and soccer mom, Barbie and Ken, frat vs. sorority and bikers vs. surfers. The majority of students at NC enjoyed Spirit Week, wearing wacky and creative outfits to match each day’s theme. The vibrant school spirit extended to an exciting tailgate held Thursday night complete with music and games. To further ignite the enthusiasm for homecoming and the Friday night football game, NC hosted a pep rally, which included the award-winning band and introduced new cheers for students to shout during the game.
As the homecoming day began, groups of friends gathered to perfect their homecoming looks and grab a bite to eat before arriving at the dance. The 2023 homecoming festivities officially kicked off at 7 p.m. Seniors arrived at their last homecoming bittersweetly, while freshmen arrived with nerves and excitement for their first homecoming.
“My experience at my homecoming was definitely unforgettable, way better than last year. The music choices were on point along with the decorations. The atmosphere that was created that night contributed to my night being extraordinary. Being surrounded by my peers, dancing, laughing and socializing certainly made my senior homecoming,” NC senior Ruqayya Reed.
Homecoming took place in the courtyard at NC, with multiple dedicated students arriving earlier to help decorate the courtyard. A photo op area by the cafe instantly drew people’s attention, featuring props that matched the theme of “Night in Vegas.” Students eagerly posed for fantastic photos with their friends. Upon arrival at the dance, students provided their ticket and school IDs for entry. Teachers worked behind the scenes, ensuring students followed the rules throughout the night for a fun and safe night. NC’s homecoming night included a music station where students could queue up their favorite songs for the DJ to play. A table by the cafe supplied food and water so students would not feel dehydrated and sick. Homecoming festivities began winding down around 10 p.m., but those in attendance could proudly attest to an unforgettable night.
“My second homecoming was way more exciting than last year. I also had such a great time getting ready with friends and going out to eat. Homecoming itself was super fun. Everyone on the dance floor was so nice and considerate if someone got hurt. I will definitely be attending again next year,” NC sophomore Lisa Scranton.
