Magnet junior Alexandra Spradling (20) found her passion for the NC girls varsity lacrosse team (3-2) during her freshman year when she decided she wanted to join a sport. After considering all of the sports NC offers, Spradling eventually decided to join the lacrosse team. Even while occupied with rigorous classes and clubs such as Rally, Spradling tried out for the lacrosse team her freshman year and officially joined the NC Lacrosse Warriors.
“I decided to start playing lacrosse because I wanted to have a community at NC and a way to exercise after school. Over time, I have gotten really close to many of my teammates on and off the field, especially due to team bonding and bus rides to our games. Our team bondings are always filled with laughter and good food and we always love to blast music and sing along for our bus rides,” Spradling said.
Lacrosse involves 12 players per team, each player with different jobs and positions. Spradling serves as an offensive player for NC, a position that works to score points by hitting the ball into the goal, and she also tries to help defend the goal when she can. Throughout her three years on the team, Spradling has played various positions and has worked extremely hard in each of them to help her team reach success.
Spradling supports her team with her ability to play any position needed. Numerous players fear playing other positions as they may feel uncomfortable but Spradling always offers to play any position. Her teammates also look up to her due to her skills and positive attitude. Spradling comes into lacrosse, whether a practice or game, focused and always with a positive attitude. Even on the sidelines, Spradling helps to coach her team through games, while maintaining cheerfulness and dedication, no matter the score. Throughout her years on the team, Spradling has bonded with her teammates and works to create close relationships with new and older teammates.
“Alexandra is an amazing friend and teammate. She is a great player on our team who always focuses on helping others such as teaching our newer players. She is an extremely positive person who brings laughter to people on our team on and off the field,” magnet junior and teammate Saffie Laposata (29) said.
Spradling plans to finish this season by working to score points and hopefully advance to playoffs. Throughout her junior year, she has worked to remain consistent and available for her teammates, while continuing her other various activities. Even after she graduates next year, she will remember the NC lacrosse team and use the values it provided her in the future. As of now, Spradling plans to major in psychology to work towards a job as a cognitive psychologist as well as to continue lacrosse by joining, or creating, a lacrosse club during her college years.
The Chant wishes Spradling good luck in her final seasons at NC and her future ahead.
