As the sun begins to set on the Class of 2025’s time at NC, Tribal Connections (TC) sought to host an event that could happily usher in the end of the road for seniors. With Advanced Placement (AP) exams and finals intending to comprise a significant amount of time in early May, TC leadership knew of the significant time constraints around planning an event and the importance of creating a fun experience. Thanks to a conveniently-timed Spring Break, however, Friday April 4, served as the date for the second annual Senior Field Day; despite the cloudy skies, seniors and teachers alike enjoyed a fun afternoon fit for a kid.
“TC wanted to host Senior Field Day to honor and reward our seniors for all of the hard work that they have put into all of their high school years. We understand how stressful senior year is with the college application process and just school in general, so we wanted to give everyone a fun time to enjoy the last few moments of high school. I’m most looking forward to hanging out with my friends and the Blue Team winning the big trophy,” magnet senior and senior class president Isabella Alves said.
When the bell rang for fourth period, seniors skipped out on attending AP Calculus or Literature to head toward the Emory Sewell Stadium. Divided into homeroom groups based on color, the four teams — red, blue, yellow and green — flooded the stands with excitement in their eyes and face paintings on their cheeks. As the music revved up and activities rolled out, seniors bubbled over with anticipation over the coming festivities.
Once on the stadium turf, seniors hit the ground running on old childhood games and activities. Near the flagpole, groups of friends adorned themselves with team-specific accessories to further stand out amongst the crowds; they additionally took photos with the “Smile! You’re a senior” sign, courtesy of TC members. As students headed toward the inside of the stadium, hoola hoops and parachutes awaited eager challengers looking to feel a rush of nostalgia. Additionally, seniors used water buckets to poke further fun at their closest friends in a wholesome way — by shooting one another in the back with water guns.
Amidst the hooping and horseplay, seniors also waited to receive a delicious taste of Pelicans Sno Balls, a local business in Kennesaw that several members of the NC community adore. As students stood in line behind the Black Box for their delicious treats, they danced to songs from the past with their closest friends of the present.
To close out the event, all four teams engaged in a bracket-style game of tug of war, a classic centerpiece of any elementary school field day. First, the green team and yellow team stepped up to the plate, with the green team beating their opponents within seconds. Afterward, blue and red went head to head — with the red team quickly taking the win. For the final showdown for the ultimate homeroom champion, seniors on both winning teams pulled with all of their might to secure the first-place prize. In the end, the green team reigned supreme, quickly beating out their fellow classmates and taking home the inflatable gold. Despite the chaotic nature of the event, the class of 2025 commemorated their enjoyment of living in the feelings of childhood for just an hour and a half, looking favorably upon the final month of their high school journeys.
“Senior Field Day means a lot to me because I know how much time we spent planning. I couldn’t help but reminisce about all the other fun events that tribal connections planned and I’ve enjoyed with my friends. I’m honestly a little sad that senior year is coming to an end but I’m glad I will always have these fun memories to keep forever,” Aleves said.
The Chant wishes all seniors luck with cementing their final post-high school plans!
