On August 3rd, 2015, the Kennesaw City Council convened for their bi-weekly meeting to discuss city matters. Mayor Mark Mathews led the meeting and featured City Attorney Randall Bentley, City Manager Jeff Drobney, City Clerk, and the current City Council members Cris Eaton-Welsh, Leonard Church, Debra Williams, Jim Sebastian, and Tim Killingsworth. Topics discussed included committee comments, petitions to sell alcohol from local businesses, citizen comments, and upcoming events.

In Committee news, The Kennesaw Citizens Advisory Committee is looking for new recruits. They are a four year old organization with 15 active citizen members who work to improve the community through service and planning. They meet the fourth Thursday of every month at 6:30PM in the Council Chambers. Committee Chairman Kevin Isgette wants to find citizens who care about the community and help them stay informed on the city:

“I really don’t know what is more alarming: a misinformed citizen or an uninformed citizen, so help us stay away from both.”

Local citizens commented on problems involved with code enforcement in the Ben King Road area where Kennesaw State University students are renting apartments. City Manager Jeff Drobney commented that he would be looking into the problem and has already put measures in place to keep citizens in line.

• August 4th, Swift Cantrell Park: National Night Out from 6:30PM – 8:30PM, hosted by the Kennesaw Police. They will provide food, the local officers, and a cameo from the State Patrol helicopter.
• August 8th, Ben Robertson Community Center: Program Palooza at 10AM, put on by Kennesaw Parks and Recreation as a summary of the upcoming events.
• August 15th, Marietta Performing Arts Center: Hearts for Heroes presents an evening with Navy Chief Rob O’Neill at 7PM. To buy tickets, check out heartsforheroesinc.org.
• August 16th, Southern Museum of History: Leo Frank Exhibit opens.
• August 22nd and 23rd, Adams Park: Pigs n’ Peaches, Kennesaw’s famous barbecue festival.
