During the Presidential Election on Tuesday, November 8, NC teachers voted in a different election: the annual chili cook-off held in the Freshman Academy. Twelve teachers submitted chilis for the competition, and NC faculty voted Engineering and Technology teacher Adam Cogbill as the winner for the fourth year in a row.

With the largest turnout ever, featuring twelve types of chili, the cook-off fed teachers with meal varieties from the traditional beef to the unique andouille sausage and fall-themed pumpkin chili. Each offered a different spice level and viscosity.

“I really liked chili number four and chili number eight because they were spicy,” AP Calculus teacher Deepa Stephen said.

All faculty supported Relay For Life by paying $5 to taste. Because of the increased entries, organizers AP Biology and Advanced Scientific Research teacher Jennifer Johnson and Honors American Literature teacher and Newspaper adviser Lindsay Theaker look forward to expanding to a bigger competition next year.

“We are looking forward to having multiple divisions and smaller taster cups for next year, as well as a vegetarian option and more chicken options,” Theaker said.
