While the macabre has intrigued humanity for millennia, the time between the viewings of executions and gore has extended far beyond the current day and age. True crime, a fan favorite of dozens, surfaces as an outlet for individuals to take an insight into their fears through peculiar exposure therapy. However, the extent to which the obsession has manifested pushes the boundaries of sanity and respect. From profiting off of victims’ traumas to desensitizing the masses to horrendous crimes, true crime needs a true time-out.

On the first day of Black History Month, a multitude of Historically Black Colleges (HBCUs) received bomb threats, forcing several students to either evacuate their campuses or take part in a hard lockdown. After further investigation of the matter, the Federal Department of Investigation concluded that these potentially harmful threats count as racially charged.

On September 26th, hundreds of mourners congregated in Holbrook, New York to pay their respects to Petito. Fire trucks positioned themselves on either side of the funeral home as everyone filed into the building. Posters also hung from a chain link fence adorned with pictures of Petito and messages, focusing on one primary statement made from her aunt in a letter: “She touched the world.”
