Senior Mandy McMasters does not label herself as any sexuality. She has had tremendous support from family and friends which she has channeled into pride and acceptance within herself.

Senior Mandy McMasters began to question herself her freshamn year at NC. After not fully understanding her sexuality, she put it on the backburner until later into high school.

Mandy chooses not to label herself with one sexuality. Although originally identifying as straight, something felt off.

“I realized that choosing not to label myself was an option, so I started saying that. I like it because I don’t have to stay with one label or commit, I can just be me and do what feels right at the time,” she said. She began telling people about her decision to not conform to a label in November 2017.

Mandy never had any problems with accepting herself, and believes her parents’ support and acceptance helped. The acceptance of her friends also helped her become more comfortable with herself and doing something out of the societal norm.

“Mandy is a relentlessly friendly and accepting person, and she is certain to brighten the day of anyone she interacts with,” Mandy’s friend, junior Kit Dupuis, said.
