Magnet senior Olivia Doucette shines bright as a determined and multi-talented student. She serves as a key figure in the NC theater department, as well as a role model for her peers. Doucette also maintains her exemplary grades by working diligently to manage her time and complete her assignments despite also balancing a full schedule.
Doucette began her journey in theater at a young age and has worked toward mastering her craft ever since. She first started performing in plays and musicals during her elementary school years and has continued pursuing her passion for theater ever since.
“I began theater when I was in fourth grade and it was all thanks to my mother. I think she thought I was too dramatic at the house so she decided to enroll me in drama classes towards the end of my elementary years. She has continued to be a constant support for me and comes to every one of my shows. She encourages me to try out for roles I normally wouldn’t and helps me feel more confident in an unfamiliar skin. My mom provided me with a push, and I fell head first in love with theater and have never looked back,” Doucette said.
February 2025, Doucette participated in All-State Theatre and performed for thousands of students at Georgia Thescon. She attended rehearsals for all-state theater months before the event and shined bright in the ensemble numbers she took part in. As the first NC student to take part in all-state theater, she showcased her singing, dancing and acting skills while representing her school and her peers.
Doucette has portrayed multiple lead roles during her time at NC, notably including Gabriella Montez in High School Musical, Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family and Evie in Descendants. The actress also participates in community theater at Firefly Theatrical, with her notable role of Fantine in the group’s production of Les Miserables.
“My favorite musical that I’ve been in would be The Addams Family. I adored playing the role of Wednesday Addams because I resonate with her in so many ways and I could simply be myself onstage, which rarely happens for me. I performed this role alongside such a talented cast and crew that made the show amazing. It will forever be an amazing role and experience that I will remember forever,” Doucette said.
Doucette currently spends a significant portion of her time rehearsing for her role in NC’s production of Mamma Mia. The actress will portray Tanya, a glamorous woman who serves as one of the best friends of the lead role Donna Sheridan, portrayed by magnet senior Laila Sain.
Because of Doucette’s packed schedule, the actress relies heavily on her time management skills to complete all of her tasks on time. She quickly learned that because she participated in both the NC International Studies magnet program and theater, she needed to work diligently to succeed. Doucette proves not just a talented performer, but an amazing person altogether. She progresses in her goals of helping others and remains a kind friend and strong leader for people in her community.
“Before Descendants, Olivia and I never really talked to each other. Once rehearsals started, we instantly clicked and started practicing our duet with each other as we got our scripts. My favorite moment we shared was our on-stage hug at the end of every single show, where she would whisper kind words to make my night even better. She is so talented and amazing and I’m so grateful for getting to act with her,” sophomore Katelyn Mckoon said.
Doucette plans to attend the University of Georgia (UGA) in Athens to major in International Affairs and minor in Russian. She remains unsure of her definite career plans, but she knows with certainty that her ultimate goal will incorporate helping others and bringing peace to the people around her. Doucette hopes to pursue a career that allows others to speak up for themselves.
“I always love watching Olivia perform onstage. She has such a beautiful voice with an amazing stage presence. Not only is she an incredible performer, but she is also such a genuinely kind and caring person. She is always so supportive and sweet,” magnet junior Seren Witschy said.
