Astro Johnson (13), a high-achieving and distinct NC student provides the perfect example for underclassmen who seek enrichment beyond the walls of NC. Johnson participates in a traveling Fence Gallery M2R, they create music and art and enjoy hiking. On top of Johnson’s various passions, they also consistently inspire and uplift their teammates. Sporting an upbeat, competitive attitude, Johnson brings a joyous light to NC and provides their teammates with only support and encouragement.
“Johnson pushes us [the team] in a positive way, whenever we tend to give up or are feeling down about certain things we are doing at practice or in-game, they give us advice and have a lot of patience. When I was a freshman they inspired me a lot and kind of shaped me into the player I am today. They taught patience and humility which especially helps during tough practices. Their motivation and amazing pep talks keep the team going,” sophomore Queenaya Holdorf (35) said.
As a senior, Johnson spent plenty of time discovering their passions and pursuing them. Now, the 18-year-old pursues their passions and becomes an avid rock climber, an artist and musician. Their love for all things creative produced a well-rounded and curious individual. On top of that, Johnson also managed to maintain a 3.75 Grade Point Average (GPA), all the while cementing themself as team captain of the varsity Lacrosse team.
As team captain, Johnson finds themself on the lacrosse (LAX) barstool Instagram every game day and leads the team through a strong season. Their teammates love them, not only for their confident leadership but for their care and support of each member of the team. Her coaches provide only shining reviews of their performance, harping on their impressive ability to step in and step up when the times become tough. Within their position as a leader, Johnson stands as an example of a stellar captain, loved by students and teachers alike.
Namely, they hiked eleven miles on Brasstown Bald, proving not only their dedication but their perseverance as well. Johnson hiked on trails from Portland to San Francisco, creating time for their passions outside of school. They also frequent the indoor climbing gym Escalade, a rock climbing gym right around the corner from NC. On top of their consistent indoor climbing, Johnson also plans to pursue outdoor climbing in Alabama once the weather warms.
“Johnson has always been there for me no matter the circumstances and I look up to them so much because they never give up and strive to succeed in everything they do. Johnson is also an amazing team captain for their lacrosse team because of their constant drive to make their team better and NC is lucky to have Johnson,” senior Jasper Payne said.
Outside of their involvement in athletics, Johnson creates time for their friends, consistently spending time with their closest friends and typically frequenting Chipotle. During their limited free time, they enjoy working on their art and drafting up new songs, reiterating their well-rounded personality and adding to their individuality.
Overall, Johnson pursues various passions beyond NC’s grounds, their upbeat and driven attitude allows them to create a fun, competitive environment for their team. They pursue art beyond the simple classes NC offers and continue to grow within their art and as a student. The glowing reviews from their teammates and shining comments from teachers further support the fact that Johnson provides a refreshing complexity to the NC student body and continues inspiring others through their pursuit of excellence.
