Zendaya made history at the 72nd Emmy Awards after winning the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series and becoming the youngest person to ever receive such an award. At only 24 years old, Zendaya celebrates this historic win from home with her family and friends.
The star of HBO’s Euphoria began her acting career as a child, appearing in several productions at the California Shakespeare Theater and other theatrical companies near her hometown in Oakland, California. She appeared in her first television gig on the well-known Disney series, Shake It Up, in 2010 and released her self-titled debut album in 2013. She later starred in other popular films such as The Greatest Showman and two of the Spider-man movies.
Being one of the most well-known artists of the decade, Zendaya formed quite a name for herself in the industry over the years. Winning this award garnered a multitude of pleasant, exciting emotions from the fans.
“Zendaya is an idol to many young teens out there since we practically grew up with her on Disney channel. It’s exciting to see her win a big award such as this one,” junior Alana Collins said.
Several of the other well-known actresses up for this award included Jennifer Anniston for her role in The Morning Show and Sandra Oh for Killing Eve.
“I was sort of shocked to find out that Zendaya won over all of these other actresses who have been in the industry for much longer. Not to downplay her success; I think she is a wonderful actress and of course she deserved this award. It was just a bit surprising that she even won against some of the greatest actresses. Her success in the acting industry is greatly improving,” Collins said.
Zendaya accepted this award ecstatically, thanking her family, team and the producer of the show for giving her the chance to play the character, Rue, in Euphoria. Surrounded by her loved ones, Zendaya celebrated this historic moment, holding the Emmy Award close with a smile on her face.
In her acceptance speech, the actress acknowledged the unfortunate times we live through in the midst of this pandemic, “This feels like a really weird time to be celebrating. There is hope in the young people out there…to all my peers out there doing the work, I see you, I admire you…thank you.”
Zendaya never fails to inspire young people all over the world. She continues to make history with her outstanding acting performance in the industry. With her success constantly growing, she will always be known for these sensational achievements.
