“Divergent” by Veronica Roth received a film adaptation in 2014, three years after the book was published. The debate over the differences between the novel and the film may never settle due to the mixed opinions of what the movie adaptation needed to include but chose not to. In this episode of “Book Buddies,” the topic includes showcasing a handful of popular disagreements among fans concerning the “Divergent” film and movie, and addresses both sides.

Following former President and current President-elect Donald Trump’s win against the Democratic party’s candidate Vice President Kamala Harris, a group of left-leaning women have considered joining forces against the patriarchy with the 4B movement. NC offers a variety of lunch options with five lunch lines dominating the space of the cafeteria. The categories include diner, world fare, soup and bakery, pizza and deli. Everyone possesses preferences on the food they eat, choosing between their favorite lines every day, but students may not feel so fondly about the lunch line that represents them.

When a teacher tells a student to believe in their potential, that simple encouragement can change their entire outlook and motivate them to push through challenges. Several students at NC may have experienced a teacher’s words inspiring them and their academic studies. The Chant wanted to know, so our Media Team members set out a jar and a poster with a prompt stating, “What is something a teacher said that moved you?”. If the person had an answer they would put their answer in the jar allowing our staff members to read it later. A teacher's faith in a student and the motivation they instill in young people can push kids to pursue their dreams with confidence.

Reminiscing on their last season, NC color guard seniors laugh and cry together. From heartfelt speeches to spontaneuous dance circles, the night reflects their close-knit bond and journey as performers. Follow the team as they ride a wave of emotions, and celebrate their achievements.

Every student-athlete awaits that coveted day when they declare, in front of their loved ones and coaches, where they plan to pursue sports after high school. For six of NC’s premiere players, November 13 marked that special day. Across varsity volleyball and lacrosse, love and appreciation for the successful seniors echoed through NC’s Arena and set the stage for future commitments.

For NC wrestlers, practice remains the foundation of success that leads teams to higher levels of competition. The coaches of the NC wrestling team watch closely to tend to the students’ skills, helping the athletes improve. When athletes hone their skills during their practice and take all the advice coaches direct, they can become champions.

In the midst of their varsity boys lineup, both seasoned competitors and fresh faces headed onto the mat with one goal in mind — beating their opponents. With their first event under their belts, the Warriors look forward to building upon their established successes throughout the season.

Recently, social media started a trend of thanking Beyoncé at every convenience, even though no personal benefit arises from it. This occurs from a twisted conspiracy theory of her and other celebrities using their power in the industry to stay on top. People believe the real reason for the trend becoming normality derives from the multitude of speeches by celebrities recognizing Beyoncé as the true winner of their various awards.

November 6, 2024, former President and Republican party candidate Donald Trump officially became the 47th president of the U.S.. Running against current Vice President and Democratic party candidate Kamala Harris, Trump defeated his political rival with a total of 312 electoral votes. Pushing his policies and goals for the future of the U.S., Americans will officially recognize Trump as president Monday, January 20, 2025, at the presidential inauguration.

River Allsen is a sophomore at NC and an ambitious new addition to the publishing team for the 2024-2025 school year. Allsen joined The Chant in hopes of improving their writing skills and gaining valuable interviewing experience as well as learning as much as they can about the world around them and understanding the views of others. Allsen enjoys writing poetry and literary analyses. While Allsen can commonly be found with the NC colorguard after school during rehearsal, during their free time they enjoy spending time with friends, eating a plethora of snacks and working on their poetry. Lidia Sidorova, Reporter
Lidia Sidorova, a sophomore at NC, is a Reporter for The Chant. She believes in students speaking their truth. Her love for communication and research has not only driven her to the journalism program but also to the Speech and Debate team at NC, where she participates in meetings and tournaments. While maintaining her spot in the Magnet program at NC, she is active in her community and volunteers at a local elementary school. Journalism is another branch of her written media appreciation; she also writes music. Sidorova plays a variety of guitar genres, along with her own songs. If she is not working on her academics or musical passions, Lidia enjoys reading, spending time out in nature, and using her mixed media artwork as a creative outlet.
