The undeniable popularity of ice cream and brownies allows them to commonly appear in various functions; however, the argument over which one reigns supreme concludes today. Sporting a variety of flavors, textures and brands, ice cream wins over brownies without a doubt. While ice cream provides various comforts throughout all seasons, brownies traditionally come as a chocolatey treat typically enjoyed in fall and winter. Ultimately, the battle between these two popular desserts concludes since ice cream takes the crown for its range and nostalgic properties.
“I prefer ice cream because I love the variety; you do not have as many options with brownies. Brownies are just all chocolate, meanwhile ice cream comes in all flavors. The different flavors of ice cream are what make it the best. Sometimes it is good and sometimes it is bad. You will not know if you like a flavor until you try it and it is always a unique experience, which is what makes it so fun,” sophomore Kayla Luberis said.
The flavor variety clearly distinguishes the two treats from each other. While ice cream comes in a multitude of flavors, brownies do not. Not only does ice cream provide a greater flavor variety, but it also exists in a plethora of other sweet treats. Ice cream creates milkshakes, banana splits and ice cream floats. Meanwhile, brownies only exist on their own or as a flavor in other dishes and hold no originality. In this field, ice cream wins against the boring nature of brownies.
While brownie lovers believe brownies deserve the win, the repetitive nature of the treat stands faulty against the range of ice cream flavors. The lovers claim that the chocolatey flavor of brownies provides comfort and overall, the dessert acts as a staple for gatherings. However, ice cream comes in chocolate flavors as well. Therefore, brownies lack a trait that truly separates the dessert from an average treat. So while the taste of brownies may provide a unique comfort, the multitude of qualities the treat lacks ultimately outweighs any redeeming ones.
Due to the number of ice cream flavors available for purchase, a consumer’s emotions can vary from bite to bite. Occasionally, ice cream lovers try a flavor they do not like; however, due to the spectrum of flavors available, they can easily try out flavors that may not appeal to them. As well as flavor, setting plays a part in enjoyment as well. Studies show that the environment in which consumers eat ice cream affects their mood. Meaning ice cream provides greater engagement for consumers, mentally and physically.
Avid brownie lovers argue that the treat provides versatility as well. However, the multitude of possibilities that ice cream presents beats brownies in that aspect. Not only does ice cream exist in a variety of recipes, but it can also come in brownie flavor.
“Because I want to be a baker when I get older, I am partial to brownies, but you cannot bake ice cream. Also, I get cavities a lot, so brownies are easier on my teeth than ice cream because they are not cold. Plus, the texture of fresh brownies right out of the oven is amazing, truly phenomenal. Flavor-wise, I just love the chocolate of brownies. I guess if people do not like chocolate, then it is not for them, but it is definitely for me,” sophomore Bella Arkin said.
Time and time again, ice cream wins the race against brownies that offer nothing in comparison to its creamy perfection. Ice cream beats brownies with its versatility, engaging textures and number of flavors. Each aspect of ice cream creates the enticing dessert people know and love. While brownies do hold certain redeeming qualities, the overwhelming and engaging nature of ice cream ruins any chance brownies possessed in taking the lead.
