With the plethora of clubs and extracurriculars offered at NC, the Warriors fall short when it comes to the expertise of gymnastics and dance. While the Warriors provide both sideline and competition cheer, the realm of competition and team dance as well as competitive and rhythmic gymnastics remains unexplored. From cheer uniforms to leotards, NC continues to expand its athletic agenda to cater to people of all hobbies and activities.
The new Lady Warriors dance team allows students from all grade levels to audition. Beginning in late July of the upcoming school year, female students can attend the weekend tryout camp which includes learning choreography and performing in front of judges. If handpicked to participate in the team of 18 girls, one will indulge in a world of county, city and state-level performance competitions as well as twice-a-week rehearsal. In preparation for pep rallies and school spirit events alike, rehearsals will become common in peak school activity weeks. Donned in orange and blue sparkly dance costumes, the team will perform a total of two routines at each event — pom and jazz.
“I am just so excited because so many other schools have competition dance teams and we just don’t. I have been competitively dancing since I was really young, and I think this would be a great opportunity to get my name out in the community as well as just have more school participation. I also think it’s really fun that we’d be able to perform at school events and games, too,” magnet sophomore Claire Doucette said.
Similarly, the Lady Warriors program introduces two new gymnastics teams: a rhythmic gymnastics team and a tumbling team. Taking competitions by beam and mat, NC female students can take their gymnastics skills to local competitions — hopefully moving to state and national level competitions. The team, with an unlimited number of slots, will host auditions to place students at both varsity and junior varsity levels in each team, guiding them through the different gymnastics divisions in Georgia.
“I haven’t done gymnastics since probably middle school, but with a new team, I think it will be a good opportunity for juniors and underclassmen to be able to keep doing gymnastics while also navigating high school. I hate that I lost my passion and motivation for it since I got into high school, so I think this is a really great idea for a lot of girls. It could also definitely bring more attention and awards to NC as well,” magnet senior Leika Badstibner said.
Upon the introduction of the new teams, several interested parents and students alike question which NC teachers possess the correct training as well as coaching skills to guide these new teams to victory. In response, Principal Matthew Moody revealed that the gymnastics and dance teams will bring two new coaches to NC. These advisors with training and choreographing experience will reveal themselves at the dance and gymnastics banquet at the end of April. Interested parents and students alike can visit the event with details to come for forms and information regarding the new season, beginning July 2025.
As programs, clubs and teachers at NC continue to expand, a new level of skill and expertise continues to advance into the Warrior community. With the new gymnastics and dance teams allowing students of all skill levels to try out, Warrior Nation hopes to gain recognition and even titles amongst the respective competitions and community.
April Fools, you fool!
