Hybrid Fit Food: NC’s delicious next door neighbor
Local restaurant Hybrid Fit Food opened across the street from NC, hoping to serve the community healthy food and create a new hangout spot.
Built this year, Hybrid Fit Food sits next to Hybrid Fitness, a gym where people train for sporting events and enhance their strength.
“We own a fitness studio right next door,” owner Greg McNeal said. “We know most clients can do the exercise but struggle with the nutrition. Now they can do both more conveniently.”
Their menu offers a variety of options, including sandwiches, salads, soup, and smoothies. They even named two items after NC: the Warrior Club Panini and Warrior Salad.
“We thought we could do something community friendly, so we want to build that relationship with the area,” McNeal said.
Their variety of smoothies range from different fresh fruits to adding protein and other boosts for refreshment on a hot day or recovery from a hard workout.
When asking for the strawberry-banana smoothie, I did not expect the fresh ingredients they used. Contrary to Smoothie King, which uses frozen fruits and fruit juices, Hybrid Fit Food puts fruits one purchases at Publix in their blenders, readily available for any and every customer to see. The smoothie itself stood refreshing and scrumptious, only leaving me wanting more after my cup emptied.
The Warrior Club Panini, which features smoked turkey, bacon, spinach, tomato, provolone cheese and light mayonnaise proved delicious. The flavors worked perfectly together, creating a wonderful sandwich that rivals those of Panera or Firehouse Subs, but healthier. The meal includes choices from a variety of chips and a pickle.
Hybrid Fit Food serves as an internet cafe with free wifi, allowing patrons to bring their laptops and complete their work while sipping on a smoothie or eating a meal. With NC directly across the street, they aim to lure students inside rather than them venturing to a chain like Starbucks or McDonalds.
“[Hybrid Fit Food] is personable, and more mom and pop, instead of a big brand. We want people to feel at home here,” McNeal said.
Their prices are manageable and they even offer a “$2 Tuesday” special where small smoothies and certain menu items are only $2.
Hybrid Fit Food offers a variety of options and remains the “healthy option” to other chain restaurants or coffee shops. With its proximity to NC, students should venture over and see the new local business for themselves,.

I love that place. I’ve been going since the year started and it’s honestly so much better than any fast food chain, even Starbucks. I know that it’s almost blasphemous to say it, but it’s true.
